We are now seeking talented Outside-Plant (OSP) Engineers responsible for planning, designing, staking, permitting, pricing, drafting, field engineering, and inspection of fiber facilities. An OSP Engineer II's essential functions will include but are not limited to:
Responsibilities & Duties
- Engineering outside plant work orders for FTTx and middle mile based on a ROM, using any combination of aerial, buried or underground cable.
- Meeting defined Statement of Work (SOW) while maintaining budget and schedule and addressing Change Orders as required working with a Project Manager.
- Completing field drawings. Prefer the engineer be able to transition field drawings to CAD and GIS.
- Designing a geo-accurate proposed fiber system.
- Assigning fiber cables and strands to the premise and developing complete splicing schematics.
- Interacting with customers, landowners, other company departments, and completing jurisdictional permits.
- Developing the project Unit List and the SOW for a contractor to bid.
- Working on-site with field crews, many times in inclement weather and across rugged terrain, performing field inspection, recording measurements, and engineering OSP construction work. Experience with GIS inspection and construction tracking platforms is desirable.
- Preparing reports and documenting all aspects of your project.
- Communicating with customers and all other stakeholders.
- Complete tasks as assigned by your manager.
Education:
- Must have at least two (2) years' experience in telecom engineering.
- Certifications are preferred but not required, such as BICSI, RCDD, PMP, etc.
- Must have FOC engineering and inspection experience using aerial, underground and direct buried practices for business as usual (BAU), FTTx, and middle mile builds.
- Copper engineering experience is desirable but not required.
- Experience with RUS coding processes, practices and terminology is preferred.
- Experience with construction standards and practices. Alaska experience is preferred.
- Highly organized, very positive, self-starter, and detail oriented.
- Excellent verbal and written interpersonal English communication skills.
- Must possess working knowledge of basic office software, such as MS Office and Adobe Acrobat.
- AutoCAD skills required. GIS, including ArcGIS/QGIS/Google Earth skills are preferred.
- Must be capable of taking detailed field notes.
- Must perform repetitive physical motions of bending, standing, climbing, and walking on uneven terrain. (You will be exposed to various weather conditions).
Compensation/Benefits:
- Competitive Wages: starting at $42.82 an hour, plus overtime.

- Union role with no paid holidays or vacation.
- Possible stipend vehicle allowance is between $4.00 and $6.00 an hour.
