POSITION OVERVIEW:

Under the supervision of the Territory Manager, the Branch Manager oversees the safe and timely execution of all projects located throughout their respective area within a territory. The Branch Manager directs, coaches and mentors the various teams within their area to ensure that all activities are being done to the JT THORPE standard. This position requires the ability to create good working relationships with company leadership, customers, owners, vendors and subcontractors.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Safety

  • Responsible for the safety of EVERYONE on each project in their area.
  • Implement and ensure the company’s safety and risk management policy is being utilized and participated in. Measure and track safety metrics for all projects in their area. Monitors and enforces FLARE card participation.
  • One weekly project audit at a minimum
  • Ensures that subordinates complete safety audits for each of their respective projects weekly.
  • Ensures that any accidents or incidents are reported to the Territory Manager in a timely fashion.
  • Ensures that the JT THORPE accident reporting procedure is followed by all Project Managers, Construction Managers and Field Supervision within their area.
  • Responsible for area participation in all corporate safety initiatives.
  • Ensures and may facilitate training so that Project Managers and Construction Managers have the appropriate training and certifications required to sell and perform his duties for all potential customers. This training may include MSHA (46/48), OSHA 10, Hazwopper, BATC, RSO, TWIC, API 936 among others.

Accounting & Financial

  • Responsible for understanding the deliverables needed for the Territory Manager to update the Work in Progress (WIP) report on a monthly basis or as needed.
  • Accountable for Branch’s Financial Budget which is reviewed monthly against plan.
  • Responsible for Accounts Receivable (contacts customers with large / old balances > 30 days)
  • Responsible for area handling all job expenses with a Purchase Order.
  • Reviews and approves their area’s weekly payroll for accuracy and timeliness.
  • Ensures that all billings are being processed in a timely manner. Weekly for T&M Projects and a minimum of monthly for Lump Sum projects.
  • Review and approve invoices by vendors for compliance to process and accuracy.
  • Review and approve all Purchase Orders for pricing, compliance to process and accuracy.
  • Responsible for maintaining our lien rights on projects that are awaiting final payment.
  • Responsible for reviewing territory material utilization on a monthly basis.
  • Ensures that all Contract or Purchase Order Terms and Conditions from our customers are reviewed and approved by legal, prior to requesting signature.
  • Responsible for reviewing awarded contracts for operational related risk.
  • Ensures that management processes are in place to prevent loss of JT THORPE’s material, equipment, and consumables.
  • Drives fiscal responsibility down to Project Managers and Construction Managers.

Human Resources

  • Responsible for performing performance reviews each year on all employees under the Branch Office. These yearly reviews will be guided by Human Resources.
  • Branch Managers should complete more frequent reviews for employees who are underperforming and coordinate any performance improvement with Human Resources.
  • Ensures that Project Manager and Construction Manager has all the tools and support needed to run successful projects.
  • Responsible for keeping the Branch Organization Chart up to date with Human Resources.
  • Responsible for hiring the appropriate number of individuals that are needed for efficient operation of his/her area within budget.
  • Responsible for coordinating with Territory Manager and Human Resources on management level recruiting needs.
  • Ensures the branch hiring process is in compliance with corporate requirements.
  • Responsible for developing key field supervision to ensure that field supervisors see a clear career path at JT THORPE.
  • Responsible for maintaining a branch training matrix.
  • Ensures that any new Project Manager or Construction Manager hired is included in the next training session and is aware of the JT THORPE process.

Sales

  • Responsible for aligning with the Territory Manager on a Branch sales strategy and coordinating with the corporate sales team on opportunities and leads.
  • Encourages field personnel to engage in sales activities.
  • Ensure the branch has a strategic growth plan that is tied to sales and marketing efforts.
  • Responsible for updating bid log and customer interactions in CRM.
  • Ensures that all proposals are reviewed and organized in a professional manor.

QUALIFICATIONS/ABILITIES:

  • 8 years in the industrial construction industry
  • 5 years of Project Management experience in construction field.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent is preferred
  • Experience with P&L management
  • Successful management of accounts > $2MM
  • Ability to estimate work and dissect estimates
  • Experience being a key point of contact for customers
  • Understanding of change order presentation and negotiation
