POSITION: Principal Resident Application Engineer
JOB DUTIES: Analyze customer applications onsite for bearing selection, bearing design requirements, bearing design proposals, test planning, and bearing installation/assembly recommendations. Define customer application conditions/inputs. Analyze inputs to determine bearing loads, life, and stress. Create and present customer proposals. Conduct and report product validation. Coordinate engineering activities between North America and China for both Ford/Changan and potential customers with operations in both North America and China. Develop new products to match market and company needs. Support warranty investigations, bearing damage analysis and problem-solving activities. Position requires 10% domestic and 10% international travel.
HOURS: 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday

REQUIREMENTS: At least a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or closely related field of study and five (5) years of experience as an Application Engineer, Automotive Engineer, or closely related role. Also requires 5 years of experience in the following:
Ford NA and Changan Ford engineering systems, processes, and documents/forms;
DFMEA, DVP&R, Quality Gates, ERM’s, Design Requests, Releases, etc;
Transmission powerflow and resolving input torques and speeds (engine and/or motor) into transmission bearings loads and speeds;
Calculating bearing life and contact stress for a number of different types of bearings: ball bearings, tapered roller bearings, cylindrical roller bearings, thrust needle roller bearings, radial needle roller bearings, and planetary needle roller bearings;
Customer multi-condition duty cycles;
Lever Diagram Analysis;
NVH analysis; and
Shaft and bearing system level analysis tools (SSAP, Masta, Romax, Bbertha, etc.), with capabilities related to bearing selection, modelling, results analysis including life and stresses.
