The Automation Technician II supports the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of control systems, acting as a key interface between electrical construction teams and controls engineers. They work more independently on routine tasks and begin to lead small portions of projects.

Responsibilities:

·        Lead installation and wiring tasks for control panels, motor control centers (MCCs), and instrumentation.

·        Perform intermediate wire terminations and panel modifications.

·        Configure and calibrate sensors, transducers, and other instrumentation.

·        Troubleshoot motor control circuits, VFDs, and basic PLC connections.

·        Conduct I/O checks, loop tuning, and initial system startup.

·        Assist in training junior technicians on standard procedures and safety practices.

·        Interface with customers to provide updates on progress and resolve on-site issues.

·        Maintain compliance with safety and industry standards throughout installation and testing.

Desired Skills and Experience:

·        Associate’s degree in Industrial Automation, Electrical Technology, or related field, or equivalent experience.

·        2-4 years of experience in automation and control systems.

·        Proficient in reading and interpreting control wiring diagrams, P&IDs, and one-line diagrams.

·        Hands-on experience with motor controls, instrumentation, and variable frequency drives (VFDs).

·        Strong troubleshooting skills for resolving wiring and configuration issues.

·        Ability to communicate effectively with customers and team members.

·        Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Essential Requirements:

Physical Stamina: May be required to work long hours and spend a significant amount of time on feet. Need to lift heavy equipment, climb ladders, and work in various positions. 

Manual Dexterity: Frequently work with small components and tools, so good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity are important. This includes the ability to manipulate wires, connectors, and other electrical components. 

Color Vision: The ability to distinguish between different colors is crucial for working with color-coded wiring and electrical components. 

Physical Strength: Need to lift heavy equipment and materials, such as conduit, wiring, and tools. Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.

Flexibility: Need to work in tight spaces, crawl spaces, and maneuver in challenging environments. Flexibility is important for navigating different job sites. 

Good Vision: Clear vision is important for reading blueprints, wiring diagrams, and other technical documents. Need to be able to identify small details and potential issues. 

Balance: Need to work at heights or on ladders, so good balance is essential to ensure safety while working in elevated positions. 

Hearing Ability: Good hearing is important for communication and safety on the job. May work in noisy environments, and being able to hear instructions and warnings is crucial. 

Working conditions: This position may involve exposure to varying environmental conditions.

Must have a valid driver’s license in good standing.
