Position Purpose
This individual will be responsible to provide guidance to subordinates assigned to his/her area of responsibility (Blending, Threshing, Drying, Packing), ensure all subordinates working in area of responsibility are treated with respect and fairness, ensure staff has proper resources required to perform duties, mentor them, provide feedback on their performance and help develop their skills, monitoring product test results to ensure standards are being achieved, make necessary adjustments or modifications to equipment, ensure the area of responsibility is maintained in a clean and orderly manner, complete (daily, weekly, monthly and annual) check list for equipment maintenance, ensure subordinates adhere to all Federal, State, Local and JTI safe regulation, ensure all safety equipment utilized is properly maintained and meets all compliance standards, perform miner maintenance on processing equipment, assist maintenance team with off season maintenance on processing equipment, other duties as requested manager.
This position is located in Danville, VA
We are offering a hybrid flexible working schedule, 50 percent onsite.
Responsibilities and Requirements
- Execute instructions designated by Leaf Processing Shift Manager for area of responsibility, provide support to colleagues processing, quality and maintenance
- Oversee daily processing of product to insure all quality requirements are being achieved in a safe and efficient manner.
- Achieve a good mechanical understanding of processing equipment utilized in area of responsibility.
- Take accountability to ensure processing equipment is being properly maintained, work orders for required repairs are being completed, submitted and followed up on
- Ensure adjustments are made in a timely manner during processing to ensure quality standards are being adhered to, document adjustments and shared with colleagues.
- Take accountability for subordinates in area of responsibility to ensure they are being provided resources required to complete assigned task, trained on the appropriate process to complete assigned task in a safe manner, motivate and provide them with feedback on performance.
- When subordinates are not meeting expectations ensure it is discussed with the individual, documented and forward to the appropriate individuals (Shift Manager, Staffing agency, and P&C)
- Work in conjunction with Shift Manager to insure processing facility is meeting or exceeding JT/ JTI technical quality standards budget though put rates.
- When product is found to be below company standards causing a Non Conformity a detailed investigation is to be conducted in collaboration with Leaf Processing Shift Manager if cause is traced to area of responsibly to identify the root cause, develop a plan to address the NCP to ensure issue is not repeated.
- Collaborate with Local EHS team to ensure practices in area of responsibility are in compliant with EHS standards i.e. labor safety, fire protection, environmental and hygienic company rules, equipment safety, etc.
- Conduct safety dialogues with subordinates, safety walk throughs, verify adequate equipment safety guarding monitor working being performed area of responsibility to insure individuals are complying to safety policies
- Recruit, motivate and guide the professional development of the team reporting directly and indirectly to the incumbent.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate Degree with a management or mechanical background or 3 years experience in tobacco processing or Agriculture Background (preferably in tobacco production) with mechanical and management skills with 2 years experience in a industrial environment (preferable tobacco)
- Minimum of 3 years experience in a manufacturing environment (preferably tobacco related) with an additional 1 years experience in leadership role with above average mechanical skills
- Good communication and written skills when dealing with individuals at all levels of the organization, vendors, contractors and JTI Leaf Services customers.
