Steam Engineer

Position Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Steam Engineer / Utilities Technician to support our high-speed food manufacturing facility. In this role, you’ll operate and maintain high-pressure boilers (4001-IP and above), troubleshoot utility systems, and perform critical maintenance tasks across a variety of mechanical and electrical systems. This is a key role in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of all plant utilities while supporting safety, quality, and production operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate and monitor high-pressure boilers and utility systems in accordance with all safety standards, regulations, and SOPs.
• Complete Preventive Maintenance (PMs) and Work Orders (WOs) accurately and thoroughly, reporting all findings and parts used.
• Conduct mechanical and utility system repairs, including pumps, valves, gearboxes, and probes.
• Monitor water systems including water softeners, filtration, treatment, and heating/cooling systems.
• Maintain and troubleshoot air compressors and dryers.
• Respond to utility-related radio calls and plant needs promptly and effectively.
• Ensure all boiler safety systems are functioning; take immediate action when issues arise.
• Maintain accurate daily logs and communicate key information across shifts.
• Collaborate with Maintenance, Production, Safety, and Quality teams to resolve issues.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of all utility areas.
• Respond to emergency situations such as power failure, fire, or evacuation.

Required Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Unlimited L.A. County Steam License or Unlimited Steam Engineer License preferred.
• Minimum 4 years’ experience operating and maintaining boilers of 200 HP or larger.
• 3 years’ experience in a high-speed food manufacturing environment preferred.
• Strong mechanical and basic electrical skills, including repair and troubleshooting of pumps, motors, VFDs, sensors, valves, etc.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Strong organizational and prioritization abilities.
• Spanish fluency is a plus.
• Ability to excel in a fast-paced, high-temperature environment.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
• Comfortable working in areas where temperatures may exceed 115°F.
