Job Description:
The QC Microbiologist I-II performs the microbial analysis on allergenic and client components, raw materials, intermediates, and finished products following written procedures, providing the data required to determine raw materials/product disposition. Essential responsibilities include but are not limited to:
QC Microbiologist I:
- Analyze raw materials, in-process, stability and final container products according to established procedures, and as directed by the supervisor.
- Record and review data in accordance with GxP to meet regulatory requirements and provide information relevant to product disposition.
- Perform studies to assess product or procedural problems under the direction of the supervisor.
- Assist in other forms of troubleshooting/investigations as directed.
- Prepare reports and assist with document revisions as directed by the Supervisor.
- Maintain training compliance on all procedures.
- Adhere to all aspects of plant safety programs and in keeping with GMP’s or other regulations.
- Maintain and operate laboratory equipment in accordance with procedure.
- Perform basic microbiology skills, such as aseptic technique, streak plating, gram staining, microscope use
- Participate in the validation of new products and processes.
QC Microbiologist II (in addition to QC Microbiologist I):
- Demonstrate proficiency in core microbiology assays, including CCI testing, LAL testing using both Gel-Clot and Kinetic methods, Bioburden using both membrane filtration and pour plate methods, growth promotion, bacteriostasis/fungistasis validation of product, biological indicator verification, APE testing, microscopic examinations, fungal and bacterial identification using microscopic and mass spectroscopy methods.
- Assist in training exercises.
- Participate in direct internal and/or external client interactions.
- Participate in the validation of new products and processes, including writing acceptance reports
Qualifications:
QC Microbiologist I:
- Bachelor of Science in Microbiology or related hard science with microbiology emphasis required.
- No experience required. Lab experience and pharmaceutical experience desired. Knowledge of microbiology, statistics, computer-assisted data processing, and good manufacturing practices desirable.
QC Microbiologist II:
- Bachelor of Science in Microbiology or related hard science with microbiology emphasis required.
- 1-year lab experience required, pharmaceutical experience desired.
- Must have an ability to utilize scientific literature, and to make effective written and oral reports that are clear, accurate, and logical. Knowledge of microbiology, statistics, computer-assisted data processing, and good manufacturing practices required.
Both QC Microbiologist I & II:
- Microsoft Word and Excel required.
- Knowledge, practical application and understanding of the sciences are necessary to perform the functions of this position.
- Must demonstrate initiative and a willingness to learn.
- Must be self-motivated with good communication and human relation skills, and must be able to effectively schedule, prioritize, and organize their time.
- Must demonstrate the ability to work in a team setting supporting project teams as a Quality Unit representative.
- Accountability – freedom to act independently -is subject to practices/well defined policy, management reviews results after the fact.
- Accountability – influence on end results – provides analysis, diagnosis or production tasks which noticeably impact end results. Ability to lift [25] pounds unassisted, exposure to allergens, repetitive activity, and prolonged sitting/standing required.

Compensation & Benefits:
This is an on-site, full-time position located in Spokane, WA.
- Hiring Wage:
QC Microbiologist I $27.01 to $36.53 per hour
QC Microbiologist II: $30.01 to $40.59 per hour depending on experience, with opportunity for growth, promotion and annual raises. See full list of benefits below for our complete compensation package.
