JOB TITLE: CHURCH CUSTODIAL/MAINTENANCE WORKER

POSITION STATUS: FULL TIME

REPORTS TO: CHURCH OFFICE MANAGER

POSITION SUMMARY

The Church is seeking a Church Custodian who is proactive, efficient, and proficient in maintaining the surroundings and all publicly accessible areas of the church. The ideal candidate will possess an understanding of proper cleaning methods and have respect for the religious and cultural beliefs of others. The Custodian will ensure that all areas of the church facility are clean and ready for other staff members and the congregation to use.

To be a successful Church Maintenance Worker, the individual is to be observant, respectful, motivated, and committed to providing church members, visitors, and staff with a clean, orderly place to worship and congregate. The Custodian as a representative of the Church is required to always make a positive and professional appearance.

Church Custodian/Maintenance Worker Duties:

SCOPE: ENTIRE CHURCH BUILDING AND SURROUNDING

· Maintaining the Church Building and surrounding.

· Arrange the sanctuary, worship spaces, and classrooms.

· Clean the floors - sweep, vacuum, polish, and buff.

· Dust furniture.

· Clean and maintain windows.

· Keep restrooms clean and replenish supplies

· Maintain the lawn and the church grounds.

· Cut grass, trim shrubs, water the lawn, maintain clean church entrance, sidewalks, and parking areas.

· Responsible for opening and locking the church doors daily and as needed, arrive early, turn lights on and off, stay until everyone is gone and set the alarm.

· Fill and drain the baptistry as needed. Provide towels and all necessary accessories needed for baptism on set dates.

· Routinely inspect the building for defects and repair as needed

· Ability to perform minor repairs and painting.

· Maintaining clean church facilities by performing weekly duties and routine spot.

· Quarterly carpet cleaning or as needed.

· Cleaning all public areas of the building, including bathrooms, sanctuary, kitchen, and meeting rooms.

· Work with church members and staff to ensure that all areas are cleaned and stocked with necessary items.

· Observe proper chemical handling procedures when working with cleaning agents.

· Set the church thermometer at the right temperature.

· Set-up and clean up after events and Church Services.

· Snow shall be removed from Church steps, walkways, sidewalks, front, and rear parking lots to allow members, staff, and guests to attend Worship Services, meetings, or events.

· Arrange and coordinate ploughing of the parking lot prior to Worship Services, meetings, and special events.

· All entrances and steps should be salted in anticipation of snow fall.

· And any other duties assigned by the Supervisor or the church.

Church Custodian Requirements:

· High School Diploma or equivalent.

· Proven experience as custodian, janitor or similar role required.

· Knowledge of basic mechanical functions equipment, cleaning techniques and safety procedures.

· Good organizational and planning skills.

· Ability to lift to 50 lbs.

· Must pass a background check and pre-employment drug screening.

· Effective communication, comprehension, and interpersonal skills.

· Flexibility to adjust schedule to suit the needs of the church.

· Motivation to work independently or with others to provide thorough, efficient maintenance service to the church.
