Irrigation Technician

1. Position description: The Irrigation Service Technician must be thoroughly familiar with all aspects of irrigation systems to include: wiring controllers and valves, pressure testing, trenching/pulling pipe; installing heads, rotors, valves, main and lateral lines, drip line, bubblers, etc.; operating equipment, ordering correct materials; and interfacing with customers, subcontractors, architects, etc. Require minimal supervision and conduct all jobs in a safe manner and, if necessary, directing a crew of one other employee. The Irrigation Service Technician must also attend to and complete all paperwork and administrative requirements related to the job while creating and maintaining a professional job atmosphere.

2. Skill set and educational requirements: The Irrigation Service Technician must possess the following skill set and educational background:

A. Minimum of a high school diploma or GED.

B. Possess a valid driver’s license and must be insurable on company’s insurance policy.

C. Have a clean criminal record.

D. Legal documentation to verify employment eligibility.

E. Physically able to handle the work load of an Irrigation Technician.

F. Have full range of mobility in upper and lower body.

G. Able to lift 50 pounds without assistance.

H. Is a certified irrigation technician (CIT) or is in program to become certified.

I. Able to interact with customers in a professional and courteous manner on a daily basis.

3. Responsibilities:

A Has a minimum of three years of experience in irrigation service field.

B. Thoroughly understands all aspects of irrigation systems as outlined below.

· Able to operate company equipment: trenchers, pullers, trucks, tampers, etc.

· Proficient in control wire tracking and solenoid location equipment

· Proficient in electrical trouble shooting and use of multi-tester

· Understands pressure, flow and pipe size interaction

· Understands multi program irrigation controller programing

C. Has experience with two-wire irrigation systems and decoder programming

D. Has the leadership capability and demeanor to effectively manage and direct a crew of one or two people.

P. Looks for extras and converts them into change orders when appropriate.

Q. Ensures all change orders are processed
correctly.

R. Interfaces with subcontractors to ensure timely and accurate completion of their phase of
projects.

S. Interfaces with suppliers to ensure timely and accurate delivery of job materials.

T. Ensures that company production standards are met.

U. Maintains a clean crew truck at all times.

V. Able to fill out and process all necessary job paperwork, purchase orders, and time sheets, etc.

W. Able to interact with clients, subcontractors, etc. in a professional and competent manner.

X. Able to train an irrigation service helper and maintain a high level of morale.

Y. Ensures that job cost reports are properly
analyzed.

Z. Thoroughly understands and complies with company policies, procedures, and SOPs.

4. Appraisal criteria: The primary appraisal criteria for the Irrigation Service Technician is to be able to perform all irrigation service tasks in a safe manner with minimal supervision, while meeting or exceeding company production standards and maintaining a high level of crew morale.

A. Is a high-energy technician who is capable of supervising one or two helpers.

B. Is organized in all areas (personal office space, field operations, crew truck, job sites, etc.).

H. Informs Irrigation Service Manager/Supervisor when assistance is needed.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
