Position Summary
The Operations Manager directs the activities and personnel of the computer center. Ensures the operation is in accordance with the established procedures and practices. Monitors performance of computing equipment, and coordinates equipment installation and delivery schedules. May recommend computer operation expansion based on current and projected activity. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function. Manages all aspects of the iSeries operations including billing, lockboxes, data transfers, vendor relationships, uptime requirements, scheduled maintenance windows, tape operation procedures etc.
Qualifications
Competencies/Skills:
- Manager must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Must be able to manage direct reports to company objectives, hold direct reports accountable.
- As a manager the position requires an individual with a dynamic personality capable of leading by example. This role requires a person who consistently demonstrates professional practices, work ethic, time management and interpersonal skills necessary to support the job description, departmental and company objectives.
- Regularly interacts with senior management or executive levels on matters concerning several functional areas, divisions, and/or customers. Requires the ability to change the thinking of, or gain acceptance from, others in sensitive situations, without damage to the relationship.
Education/Certification:
- Associates degree or equivalent education in relevant field required.
Experience:
- Typically requires 3 years of relevant enterprise operations experience.
- Industry standard process experience and proven policy and process experience in prior job functions.
- Exposure and demonstrated experience in project management, and IT practices such as escalation, ITIL, COBIT, CMM, PMI, or ISO standard practices.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions/Job Duties
- Receives predetermined work assignments that are subject to a moderate level of control and review.
- Provides immediate supervision to the operations team, assigning tasks, checking work at frequent intervals, and maintaining schedules. Establishes operational objectives and work plans, and delegates assignments.
- Works on issues where analysis of situation or data requires review of relevant factors. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action.
- Follows established practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be readily obtained. Monitors daily operations of a unit or sub-unit. Requires full knowledge of own area of functional responsibility.
- Works on issues of diverse scope where analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of a variety of factors, including an understanding of current business trends.
- Follows processes and operational policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
- Develops and administers schedules and performance requirements; may have budget responsibilities.
- Involved in developing, modifying and executing company policies that affect immediate operations(s) and may also have company-wide effect
