Description: Our client is currently seeking a Sr. Network Engineer
Job Description:
We're looking for a Cisco-focused network architect to stabilize, redesign, and modernize a legacy campus LAN. This person will take full ownership of the network environment-from auditing and access, to re-architecting IP schemes, routing, VLANs, ACLs, and segmentation, and leading phased migrations to modern hardware. They should be hands-on, strategic, and capable of producing clean documentation to hand off when complete.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Phase 1 - Stabilize and Assess
Audit all hardware (e.g. 3800 APs, 2960/3650/3850 switches, voice gateways)
Ensure access to all devices; document code levels, licenses, and configurations
Onboard devices into Catalyst Center and organize logically
Validate cabling, power, uplinks, and patching; direct smart hands as needed
Phase 2 - Architect and Design
Create a new IP addressing scheme (scalable and hierarchical)
Redesign the Layer 2 topology (VLANs, STP roles, loop mitigation)
Define and implement a new routing strategy (EIGRP or OSPF)
Build new ACLs and segmentation strategy
Develop a NAC-ready design for Cisco ISE integration
Plan voice gateway migration to Microsoft backend in coordination with the voice team
Redesign physical layout as needed, including cabling and rack strategy
Phase 3 - Migrate and Modernize
Execute phased migrations from old to new architecture
Begin tech refresh aligned with new design and standards
Organize Catalyst Center for clarity, grouping, and future automation
Provide remote support and guidance to onsite smart hands and customer teams
Ongoing - Documentation and Handoff
Produce clean, detailed Visio diagrams of current and future-state topologies
Maintain Excel-based asset lists, IP address plans, VLAN documentation, and migration plans
Ensure full documentation is ready for handoff and long-term operations
Required Skills:
Strong Cisco Layer 2/3 background in campus networks
Experience with Catalyst Center (device import, organization, templates)
Ability to design scalable IP addressing, VLANs, routing protocols, and segmentation
Familiar with Cisco ISE (integration and switch config readiness)
Comfortable with voice gateway basics and working with voice teams
Can direct smart hands for cable tracing and hardware work
Must be able to build high-quality documentation using Visio and Excel
Strong communication skills to work with internal teams and onsite customers
