PRIMARY PURPOSE :
The Director of Transportation manages the overall operation of the Transportation Department : assumes the duties and responsibilities as related to supervising and training personnel, dispatching, routing, safety, and scheduling buses.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Certification Requirements
- Bachelor's degree
- Texas Association for Pupil Transportation Certification preferred
- Possess current Texas Commercial Driver's License (Class B)
- Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee

Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Transportation Director preferredExperience and ability to supervise personnelExperience in field of fleet managementMinimum of five (5) years of experience in public education preferredExperience in training and in management or supervision and knowledge of transportation preferredMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES :

Develops a timely and efficient bus schedule which allows students to be transported to and from school in a manner which supports the districts missionCoordinates with District personnel the use of Transportation Department vehicles to transport student to special education functionsRecommends all Transportation Department employees for hire, transfer and promotionDevelops training manuals and maintenance training records for all Transportation Department driversCommunicates and promotes high expectations for staff and employee performance in a supportive way and provides proper recognition of excellence and achievementAssesses bus routes and other transportation functions to ensure that maximum safety, service, etc. are being attained, makes adjustments when necessary if maximum potentials are not being reachedDefines job performance expectations of staff, evaluates job performance, conducts conferences and / or improvement plans to ensure the best operation of the DepartmentPrepares an annual budget for the Transportation DepartmentMonitors the use, maintenance, and replacement of capital equipmentReceives and files current enrollment reports (by geographic area)Prepares and submits all reports required by the District Board of Trustees and / or the Texas Education AgencyReviews and authorizes purchase requisitions for the Transportation DepartmentDevelops procedures for extra curricular trips involving Transportation Department vehiclesEnsures that all vehicles in the Transportation Department are adequately maintainedEstablishes guidelines for assigning drivers to extra curricular tripsOversees the preventive maintenance schedule for District vehiclesEnsures that data is maintained in relation to gasoline / propane expenditures per vehicleAccepts responsibilities for registering, licensing and maintaining a maintenance log for all District vehiclesKeeps abreast of current specifications required by the State regarding school busesProvides the Purchasing Department with bid specifications when attaining new busesSafeguards the transportation inventory and follows appropriate accounting proceduresAuthorizes the payment of purchases made by the Transportations DepartmentCoordinates the rental of charter buses and other vehicles used in field trips for District groupsMaintains records of students participating in District Transportation processEnsures that bus drivers are familiar with procedures in dealing with misconduct / conflictsParticipates in relevant professional growth experiences which expand knowledge of operating the departmentMaintains records on employees which track needs and initiates activities which address such needsDemonstrates awareness of school / community needs, and initiates activities which address such needsResponds in a positive and professional manner to parents who have problems or express concernsDrive a school bus with or without students on boardMaintains a consistent professional demeanor and appearanceDaily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the jobSupervisory Responsibilities :
