PRIMARY PURPOSE :
The District Nurse administers and coordinates the health services program.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Certification Requirements
- High school graduate or GED equivalent
- Licensed Registered Nurse
- Valid Texas Driver's License, a good driving record, and proof of insurance on vehicle used to travel to district
- Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee.

Conducts school health services, vision, hearing, and other such screenings as may be requiredDispenses prescribed medication with doctor's orders and parent permissionMonitors immunization requirementsProvides emergency care in the event of illness or accidentAssists campus staff maintain up-to-date cumulative health records on all studentsReports to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on school medical matters as neededPrepares and submits reports to the Superintendent / designee and State Board of HealthParticipates with school health services staff in developing and implementing a total school health programAssists health services staff in adapting the school program to meet the needs of individual students by communicating with the Special Education DepartmentServes as a team member and provides for all children as neededServes as a liaison between the school and community health and welfare agencies and the medical professionCounsels with health services staff to secure needed medical, dental, or other treatmentParticipates in staff development as required by district administratorAttends local, state, and / or national professional conferences or workshopsProvides professional development, training, and direct support of school nurses and health aides / designeesPerform other duties as assigned, based on department needsMust complete designated district technology proficiencies each yearRequires a basic knowledge of technology / computer skillsAbility to use personal computer to access district programs, emails, and other resourcesMaintain a consistent professional demeanor and appearanceEnsure compliance with the Texas Educator's Code of EthicsDaily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the jobSupervisory Responsibilities :
Supervision and evaluation of district personnel is not a requirement of the position; however, the supervision of students is required.
