Job Title/Department: Building Substitute
Employee Classification: Exempt / Full-Time
Employee Reports To: Principal, Brecksville
Julie Billiart Schools is a network of schools serving children in grades K-8 with special learning challenges. Currently there are campuses in Akron, Lyndhurst, Westlake and Brecksville that offer unique learning environments for students with autism, ADD/ADHD, dyslexia and social learning challenges. We are Catholic, non-public schools that respect diverse faith traditions.
The purpose of the Building Substitute position is to support the classroom teachers when they are away from the classroom on a short or long term basis. The Building Substitute will be assigned daily to cover teacher absences, providing the support and guidance that students need to succeed. They will present and teach subject matter across content areas to students in grades K-8 as outlined in substitute plans provided by the classroom teacher. The building substitute is expected to challenge, inspire, and actively engage students in the learning process. If no absence coverage is needed, the building substitute will provide support to classroom teachers as directed by the school principal. Note that the building substitute will be required to perform additional daily duties that have been assigned to the absent employee
This person is responsible for implementing programing that will result in students achieving academic success in accordance with Julie Billiart Schools and the Diocese of Cleveland policies.
Requirements
Required Education and Certifications:
• Minimum of bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, or related field
• 2 years working with students with ADHD, Autism, or other learning challenges
Preferred
• Professional certification or teaching license in an area of education (General Ed., Special Ed., etc.)
Job Responsibilities:
• Deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences, using a variety of learning materials and resources.
• Implement schemes of work and lesson plans generated by the classroom teacher
• Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
• Prepare classroom for class activities.
• Identify and select different instructional resources and methods, including the use of
relevant technology, to meet students' varying needs and to support instruction.
• Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
• Assign and provide appropriate feedback on students submitted assignments.
• Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development.
• Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
• Apply appropriate disciplinary measures where necessary.
• Other duties as needed.
