Summary

Julie Billiart Schools is a network of schools serving children in grades K-8 with special learning challenges. Currently there are campuses in Akron, Lyndhurst, Westlake and soon to be Brecksville (open Fall 2024) that offer unique learning environments for students with autism, ADD / ADHD, dyslexia and social learning challenges. We are Catholic, non-public schools that respect diverse faith traditions.

The Physical Education Teacher is responsible for providing an educational atmosphere where students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, spiritual and psychological growth. This person is responsible for organizing and implementing a physical education program that will result in students achieving success in accordance with Julie Billiart Schools and the Diocese of Cleveland policies. The phys. Ed. Teacher will collaborate with faculty / staff / therapists to educate the whole child.

Duties and Responsibilities

The following is a list of primary duties and responsibilities. Other duties to be assigned as needed.   • Plan, prepare and deliver physical education activities to facilitate active learning experiences
  • Develop schemes of work and lesson plans
  • Use gross motor activities to achieve educational and behavioral objectives based on the individual needs of the child
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities
  • Prepare classroom for class activities
  • Provide a variety of gym materials and resources for use in educational and gym activities
  • Identify and select different instructional resources and methods to meet students' varying needs
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use of gym materials and equipment
  • Use relevant technology to support instruction and gym activities
  • Observe and evaluate student's performance and development
  • Provide appropriate feedback on work
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development
  • Collaborate with classroom intervention specialists and school therapists
  • Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies and school regulations
  • Prepare required reports on students and activities
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures
  • Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school
  • Apply appropriate disciplinary measures where necessary
  • Participate in level and school meetings, parent meetings
  • Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs
  • Attend professional development meetings and Parent meetings as required by the Principal
  • Write professional development goals as required by the LPDC
  • Keep up to date with developments in subject area, teaching resources and methods and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Requirements

    Qualification, Educations, and Experience :

  • Bachelor degree or higher from an accredited institution with a license in Physical Education
  • Experience in working with children with special learning needs preferred
  • Will consider a recent graduate with appropriate experience in an educational setting
