Director of Marketing, Digital Engagement, and Client Experience - location is flexible inside bank's footprint (Western United States)
Overview of Role: One of our clients, a dynamic and forward-thinking financial institution, is seeking an innovative Director of Marketing, Digital Engagement, and Client Experience to lead its transformation in marketing, digital engagement, and client experience. This is a rare opportunity to play a pivotal role in redefining a bank’s brand identity while driving digital innovation and organic growth.
This bank's growth strategy prioritizes organic expansion, digital innovation, and client engagement, shifting away from the traditional reliance on acquisitions as the primary driver of growth. The marketing strategy will no longer rely on generic banking imagery but instead aim to capture attention and intrigue potential clients. Digital banking is a critical priority, as the institution seeks to improve digital account openings significantly, modernize its client experience, and position itself as an industry leader in digital financial services.
This role will require a visionary, data-driven marketing leader who can balance bold creativity with strategic execution, leveraging insights to drive engagement, product adoption, and long-term growth.
Ideal Candidate & Initial Key Priorities: The ideal candidate will be a seasoned marketing leader with a strong background in financial services, particularly in organizations with more than $30bb in total assets, and a deep understanding of both big-bank strategies and community banking dynamics. The bank is particularly interested in individuals with experience in consumer and retail solutions, products and pricing, analytics, digital transformation, and strategic leadership.
- Develop a comprehensive marketing roadmap focused on organic growth, digital transformation, and brand repositioning.
- Launch high-impact marketing and public relations campaigns to increase client acquisition and engagement.
- Evaluate existing product offerings and identify gaps in digital banking capabilities and client engagement strategies.
- Build and oversee partnerships with marketing and technology vendors to support digital and branding initiatives.
- Lead the in-branch & online account opening project to increase digital adoption.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute a bold, attention-grabbing marketing strategy that sets the bank apart from competitors while aligning with its mission and values.
- Lead the expansion of digital banking capabilities, ensuring a seamless and modernized experience across online and in-branch channels.
- Utilize analytics to develop targeted marketing campaigns, improve product positioning, and expand client reach, particularly in high-growth markets.
- Oversee digital, traditional, and experiential marketing efforts, including advertising, social media, PR, and internal/external communications.
- Develop and implement engagement strategies that strengthen client relationships, increase satisfaction, and boost retention.
- Lead a high-performing marketing and communications team while partnering with executive leadership, product development, and digital banking teams to align marketing with business goals.
- Manage external marketing agencies, digital providers, and technology vendors to enhance the bank’s marketing and digital capabilities.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- 10 years of progressive marketing leadership experience, with at least 5 years at the Director or VP level.
- Proven ability to lead large-scale brand and marketing transformations within financial services.
- Experience overseeing digital banking initiatives, including online account openings, digital engagement tools, and customer experience enhancements.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to use data to inform marketing, pricing, and product strategies.
- Expertise in brand positioning, advertising, and public relations, with a track record of leading successful, high-impact marketing campaigns.
- Leadership experience managing cross-functional teams in marketing, digital strategy, and communications.
- A history of working in both large financial institutions and mid-sized community-focused banks, with an ability to adapt big-bank strategies to a leaner, more agile environment.
- Excellent communication skills and executive presence, with the ability to present marketing vision and strategy to senior leadership and board members.
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or a related field.
Why This Opportunity Stands Out:
- This bank has a long history of giving back, and this person will work closely with the community development team and foundation leaders to develop campaigns and strategies that highlight the bank’s philanthropic efforts, reinforcing its deep commitment to the communities it serves.
- The bank’s leadership team, including the CEO, is fully committed to marketing and digital transformation, ensuring ample support and investment.
- This is not a typical banking marketing role—this is an opportunity to disrupt outdated industry norms and build a brand that stands out in a crowded market.
- With digital banking as a top priority, this role provides an opportunity to shape the future of financial services by enhancing the bank’s online and mobile presence.
- The individual in this role will directly influence growth strategy, client engagement, and revenue generation in key markets.
Location & Travel:
- Specific locations and preference can be discussed on the phone. The role can be based anywhere in the bank's Western US footprint with hybrid flexibility available depending on candidate location and experience.
