The person in this position is supervised by the Technology Network Coordinator and is responsible for performing a wide variety of tasks related to the use of technology in an educational setting. Responsibilities include installing, configuring, and repairing hardware, software, and peripheral systems, as well as helping to maintain the district network. The technology support specialist assists students and staff with the use of computers, computer related equipment, and software. This position may assist the technology coordinator in the supervision and evaluation of student helpers and summer workers.
District cell phone provided, as well as mileage reimbursement for use of personal vehicle while traveling between schools.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other related duties as assigned.
- Must be able to support Windows computers and Apple operating systems.
- Have a basic understanding of networking topology.
- Knowledge and experience with : wireless networking, knowledge of Aruba equipment preferred; networks and connecting computer equipment to networks; managing active directory; Windows Deployment; supporting network printers and copiers; and supporting Macintosh computers.
- Ability to effectively communicate technical information to non-technical staff, including the ability to train individuals and staff members in effective software usage (needs to be determined by district technology department and district / school administration).
- Connect devices into the network. Perform basic network jack and cabling repairs and installation.
- Configure, deploy and troubleshoot network devices and services in coordination with local ESD staff.
- Perform preventative physical network closet and equipment maintenance.
- Create, modify, reset, archive and remove user network, email, and cloud service accounts in coordination with instructional technology coordinator.
- Modify server file and folder permissions. Perform data restoration operations.
- Support district mobile technology (i.e., laptops, Chromebooks, iPads).
- Review, complete, and close Trouble Tickets in a timely manner.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot a variety of computer problems.
- Participate in and contribute to district and building level technology meetings.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by participating in professional development activities.
- Ability to understand and ethically work with confidential information.
- Demonstrate regular and acceptable attendance and punctuality, as set forth in Board policy.
- Be familiar with and adhere to all relevant District Board policies, administrative regulations, and building rules.
- Interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff, parents, businesses, agencies, and community members and resolves conflict in a professional manner.
- Work independently under district guidelines and cooperatively in teams with other staff members.
- Attends in-service and workshop trainings; applying training to responsibilities.
- Completes appropriate logs, forms, and paperwork, as required.
- Reports safety, sanitary, and fire hazards immediately to supervisor.
- Reports issues to authorities, as necessary, animal control, suspicious activity, etc.
- Operates and troubleshoots office machinery.
- Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
SUPERVISION
All school employees have some responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment. Supervision of student helpers / workers, as required.
