POSITION SUMMARY

This position provides customer service to Juneau County parks and campground visitors; provides administrative and clerical support of the County Land, Forestry and Parks Department. This position maintains the condition of the County’s parks and recreation areas to provide a clean and safe environment for workers and the public.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following duties are normal for this position. However, they are not to be construed as exclusive or all–inclusive. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Other duties may also be required or assigned.

  • Provides customer service to park visitors; addresses and resolves visitor questions as able and refers complex inquiries, requests, or complaints to other appropriate staff as needed.
  • Distribute maps, copies of park rules and regulations, and brochures about County parks and campgrounds.
  • Completes the registration of campers, makes camping reservations and sells car passes.
  • Performs cash and credit card transactions for customers.
  • Reconciles daily revenues and prepares deposits.
  • Sales of daily and annual park admission stickers;assist with promotional and educational activities.
  • Provides information to park visitors, sales of wood or canteen items.
  • Enters, scans, updates, and maintains information in spreadsheets, databases, and reports.
  • Maintains electronic filing, paper filing, and record systems to provide easy access to records and information; provides retention of records as required by Department and County policies.
  • Mowing, weed trimming, and grounds care.
  • Operates maintenance equipment, including but not limited to, both steering column and lap bar zero-turn mowers, gas powered string trimmer, gas powered backpack blower, push behind mower, push behind turbine blower, pressure washer, and backpack sprayer.
  • Cleans, lubricates, and performs preventive maintenance or repair on equipment.
  • Ensures proper care and maintenance of tools and equipment.
  • Ensures park’s restrooms, picnic shelters and recreation areas are clean and in working order.
  • Sanitary upkeep of outhouses and shower buildings.
  • Maintains appearance of all parks to ensure the areas are free of litter, graffiti, trash, fallen tree limbs and other debris.
  • Assisting with park projects.
  • Operate vehicles, equipment, and tools.
  • Assist the Park Supervisor in enforcing policies and ordinances.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Able to work nights, weekends and holidays.

Supplemental Information

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of Juneau County communities, roads and highways; ability to read maps.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards of the work and necessary safety precautions.
  • Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions and adhere to prescribed departmental routines.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records of assigned activities.
  • Skill in time management; prioritizing duties to accomplish a high volume of quality work product requiring minimal supervision.
  • Ability to define problems, exercise sound judgment, and address a variety of situations successfully.
  • Knowledge and ability to follow the policies and practices contained in the County Personnel Handbook.
  • Ability to work the allocated hours of the position and respond after hours if needed.

  • This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, frequently requires standing, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions and occasionally requires walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and reaching with hands and arms.
  • Work has standard vision requirements.
  • Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
  • Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
  • Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data and observing general surroundings and activities.
  • Having willingness to work outdoors in inclement weather conditions.
  • Requires wearing appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • May require working near moving mechanical parts; vibration; exposure to fumes, airborne particles, chemicals, and bloodborne pathogens.
