We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Junior High Social Studies Teacher to join our school community. The ideal candidate will be responsible for teaching students in grades 7-8, fostering an understanding of history, geography, civics, and other social studies disciplines. This position involves developing engaging lesson plans, promoting critical thinking, and inspiring students to explore the world’s past and present.
Key Responsibilities:
Instructional Duties:
- Plan and deliver age-appropriate lessons in history, geography, government, and culture.
- Use diverse instructional strategies to engage students with varying learning styles.
- Incorporate technology and hands-on activities into lessons to enhance learning experiences.
- Encourage students to think critically about historical events and their relevance to current issues.
Classroom Management:
- Establish and maintain a safe, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment.
- Enforce school policies and classroom rules to ensure effective learning.
- Promote positive behavior and manage conflicts constructively.
Curriculum Development:
- Align lesson plans with state and national standards for social studies education.
- Modify curriculum to accommodate individual student needs and cultural diversity.
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop interdisciplinary projects.
Assessment and Feedback:
- Create and administer assessments, including tests, quizzes, essays, and projects.
- Provide constructive feedback on student work and progress.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance and attendance.
Communication and Collaboration:
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians about student progress and behavior.
- Attend parent-teacher conferences, staff meetings, and professional development sessions.
- Work with school counselors, administrators, and other staff to support student success.
Professional Growth:
- Stay updated on new teaching methods, tools, and developments in social studies education.
- Participate in workshops, seminars, and other training opportunities.
Applicants must hold a current Arkansas teaching certificate. Any applicant who holds an out-of-state teaching certificate must provide documentation showing they have started reciprocity procedures as required by the Arkansas Department of Education.
Salary ranges from a minimum ($51,000) to a maximum ($73,311) - based on the 2024/25 salary schedule for a 190 day contract. Salary is based on experience. A complete salary schedule can be found on our school website.
