Position: Full-Time Assistant Athletic Trainer

Salary Range: $60,000.00 to $65,000.00 per year

Reports to: Head Athletic Trainer, Athletic Director and Assistant Principal: Student Life
Duties: The Assistant Athletic Trainer works under the supervision of the Head Athletic Trainer and supervises the care of student athletes competing in the Department of Athletics at Junipero Serra High School. The assistant athletic trainer is responsible for the prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation of both short and long term injuries.
Responsibilities:
The Assistant Athletic Trainer reports to and provides professional assistance to the Head Athletic Trainer by providing athletic training services on an ongoing basis while helping to ensure attainment of the school’s unique Catholic mission: to educate men of faith, wisdom, service, community and leadership.
● Provides care to the student athletic population including emergency care, assessment, management, treatment and rehabilitation when necessary.
● Is professionally licensed to use mechanical stimulation, heat, cold, light, air, water, massage and therapeutic exercises in the course and scope of this job.
● Provides prevention, recognition and immediate care and treatment of athletic related injuries.
● Develops and cultivates contacts with referring physicians, businesses, coaches and other referral sources.
● Helps to act as a liaison between family physicians and specialists, school administration, athletes and their parents.
● Provides patient education in the areas of sport injury prevention and care.
● Provides input as to the fitness and conditioning status of athletes. Utilizes appropriate, sound and up-to-date clinical techniques to effectively assess and treat athletic injuries.
● Maintains an athletic training room and equipment and is responsible for purchases and supplies necessary to keep the athletic training facility adequately always stocked.
● Provides pre and post practice and game application of tape, bandages, and braces to help athletes avoid injury.
● Helps to ensure that aspects of the athletic training program meet standards as specified by the school, the Archdiocese, the Western Catholic Athletic League, Central Coast Section and California Interscholastic Federation.
● Maintains current knowledge of applicable state athletic training compliance according to the mission of the school.
● Assists with maintaining medical reports and records of student athletes.
● Ensure that the training room and training equipment is properly supervised whenever the facility is in use.
● Attends home and away games/matches according to a mutually agreed-upon schedule with the Head Athletic Trainer and the Athletic Director in conjunction with other administrators.
● Performs such related tasks may from time to time be assigned
Desired Qualifications
● Professed and practicing Catholic preferred
● Bachelor’s degree or hire
● Board certified Athletic Trainer recognized by the NATA.
● 1-3 years’ experience working with Physical Therapy and high school athletes
● Must be able to perform a wide variety of strenuous physical activities
● Such alternative or additional qualifications as the school deems appropriate
