Job Description
Job Summary: The Learning Specialist Teacher is responsible for teaching various courses, including ESOL, Academic Support, and/or Team Taught Reading/Math classes. The successful candidate will be able to incorporate different styles of teaching and varied approaches to engage students and assist their learning. The Learning Specialist will teach skill-based strategies that support students’ core academic classes.
This position is a Full-Time, school-year, 10-month role, reporting to the Director of Learning Services.
General Description of Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide a daily learning support period for students to develop and practice content from their core classes while incorporating learning strategies, executive function skills, and study skills.
- Direct and teach children with diagnosed learning disabilities in programs specifically designed to meet their educational needs.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals regularly
- Evaluate and interpret various testing data
Essential Job Requirements
- Evaluate psycho-educational testing and interpret needs for individual student programs
- Create and update student Learning Plans annually and as needed during the school year for students in grades Maintain a working record of current students in program in alignment with the Registrar and Business Offices
- Evaluate any new documentation (Psychological Evaluations, annual grade reports, etc)
- Schedule and conduct Learning Plan Meetings with each parent/guardian and/or administrators
- Record and document topics or changes as discussed
- Maintain the digital portfolio of each student in the Learning Support Program by submitting all testing, updated plans and meeting notes to the Director of Learning Services.
- Arrange and ensure Learning Plans go to the appropriate students’ teachers and that the accommodations are applied and upheld in the classroom environment
- Work in conjunction with the Director of Learning Services to review prospective student files, making admission recommendations based on IEPs and Psychological Evaluations for students
- Teach executive functioning skills, study skills, and learning strategies in the Learning Strategies Course.
- Provide push in support in the areas of Math/English to core classes in Middle and/or High School classes.
- Assists teachers in identifying reading strengths and weaknesses and matching them with appropriate strategies and materials to ensure student success.
- Implement instructional activities where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences centered around Biblical principles
- Encourage students to think independently, creatively and critically and to express original ideas
- Provide a safe and positive learning environment
- Provide feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress through review of data
- Maintain confidentiality of all information for the purpose of protection of students, staff, parents, and the school
- Manage small group testing needs concurrent with classroom instruction. Students in small group testing will need to be supervised and need assistance according to their Learning Plan

Education
- Required: Bachelor’s Degree with Reading or Special Education
- Preferred: Master’s Degree or higher; ACSI Certification
- Experience Required: At least three years’ teaching experience working with students diagnosed with learning disabilities using specific programs and strategies designed for their individual learning needs.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $40,400.00 - $55,000.00 per year
