Education
High school graduate or equivalent
Associate degree or bachelor's degree preferred
Completion of a cardiac sonographer or echocardiography certificate program
Experience / Qualifications
Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS).
One year of clinical experience in the field of Echocardiography required.
BLS Health Care Provider from American Heart Association.
Position Summary
The Echocardiographer will perform diagnostic ultrasound evaluations of the heart using "M" Mode and 2 D imaging as well as pulse wave, continuous wave and color flow doppler. Will be able to identify the anatomy of the heart using ultrasound techniques. Under the immediate direction of the Lead Echo Tech , and within established hospital and department policies and procedures, operates diagnostic ultrasound equipment. Duties include but are not limited to :
Scans patients in all aspects of cardiac scanning including M-Mode, 2-D, color, Doppler, exercise testing and TEE.
The Echocardiographer will prep for cardiac stress tests, Transesophageal Echocardiograms (TEE), contrast studies, and bubble studies.
Inform interpreting physician if an abnormal finding and / or a hemodynamically significant change is present from previous examination.
Enters patient demographics, verifies order to undertake exam, performs echo study based on patients medical history.
Processes CDs as requested.
Trains others in the use of and uses of the CPACS System.
Assists in scheduling patients.
Interviews patients in order to obtain information pertinent to exam.
The Echocardiographer will be able to maintain all paperwork for the Echo Department.
The Echocardiographer should have or develop a good working knowledge of all the other procedures in the Cardiology Department for example EKG's, Holter hookups and scanning.
Ability to interpret findings for preliminary reporting.
Maintains echo equipment in good working condition and assures echo labs are clean; reports malfunctions of equipment to supervisor as needed.
