Education

Experience / Qualifications

• Must have Current Certified Nursing Assistant Licensure in the State of Florida
• Must have a nationally accredited Phlebotomy Certification
• American Heart Association BLS for Health Care Provider.
• 2 years or more acute care experience preferred
  
  

Position Summary

The Certified Nursing Assistant/ Phlebotomist is a member of the nursing team who contributes to the comfort and well-being of the patients by performing specifically assigned tasks and works under the direction of the Registered Nurse. Accurately and efficiently performs specimen collections and testing as defined by laboratory policy and procedure manuals, including the following:

• Computer data entry and workflow monitoring.
• Assesses the environment to assure patient safety and determines appropriate equipment to use that meets the patient’s needs.
• Maintains chain of custody for forensic collections.
• Maintains HRP and pending log lists.
• Organizes workflow to improve efficiency.
• Answers phones, faxes reports, and maintains phlebotomy inventory. Maintains a clean environment.
• May drive to offsite locations for specimen collections.
• Ability to utilize more than one computer system to track and receive orders.
• Able to learn specimen requirements for over 2000 tests; timing of draws, and anatomy for correct collections.
• Excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to self-direct and exercise independent judgment in situations requiring follow-up and discussions with clinical staff and/or other areas of the Laboratory to ensure completeness of task and customer satisfaction.
• Works well in a team environment to accomplish common tasks to solve problems, and enhance the smooth and efficient flow of the department.

Physical Requirements

This job can be physically demanding at times requiring stooping, sitting, standing, and walking for long periods of time. The team member will need to frequently assist lifting patients and heavy equipment. Must be able to work in a stressful environment, work independently, making sound decisions, detail oriented, alert, and self-motivated. Ability to push/pull up to 40lbs, carry and lift up to 50lbs.

These threshold requirements are required and completed on a yearly basis

• Annual Joint Commission mandatory education requirements, in-service and health requirements including attendance at new employee orientation
• TB/PPD Surveillance Program
