Education
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program
- Graduate of an accredited Advance Practice nursing program with either a Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) degree or Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) degree
- American Heart Association BLS & ACLS, NIHSS certifications
- Holds a current license as an ARNP in the state of Florida
- A minimum of 2 years of Cardiovascular Critical-Care hospital experience
- Clinical expert in Cardiovascular nursing practice and in the delivery of evidence-based nursing interventions
- Specialized skills to integrate care across the continuum and through three spheres of influence: patient, nurse, system
- Able to create environments through mentoring and system changes that empower nurses to develop caring, evidence-based practice to alleviate patient distress, facilitate ethical decision-making and respond to diversity (The Consensus Model for APRN Regulation)
- Demonstrates critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning skills
- Demonstrates strong problem solving, teamwork and consensus-building
- Provides a positive influence to improve outcomes and satisfaction of the patients, families, nurses, and the healthcare team

- This position will be working closely with the cardiovascular critical care patients, physicians and nurses to assist in the development of the Open-Heart Surgical program;
- Manages comprehensive and individualized care through the inpatient phase in collaboration with the Cardiothoracic Surgeons by utilizing the best available evidence to guide practice interventions
- Enhance and implement the delivery of optimal patient care and evaluate the post-surgical cardiac patients to improve patient outcomes
- Develop criteria for and evaluate the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice in addition to enhancing all quality measures in the post-operative patient in accordance with the STS guidelines
- Provide consultation to the nursing and healthcare team; patients and families
- Utilizes teaching, learning theory and appropriate teaching strategies in the provision of education to nursing in both the CVICU and PCU, healthcare team, patients and families
- Collaborate with the Clinical Manager and Executive Director, Cardiovascular Service line to serve as leaders, change-agents and advocates at all levels to create innovative solutions for the cardiovascular patients as well as assisting the STS data abstractor with quality measures
- Participate in Multi-Disciplinary Rounds
- Communicates effectively with patients, families, physicians and the multidisciplinary healthcare team to assure the delivery of efficient and coordinated care
- Responsible for reconciling patient discharge medications
- Mandatory post-operative phone calls on all patients that are discharged to monitor care on a consistent continuum
