Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Sterile Processing Technician to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in cleaning, packaging, sterilizing, and storing surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment. This is a Part-Time or Per-Diem position, with flexibility to schedule morning or afternoon shifts, with varying days throughout the week. No nights, no weekends, no holidays, no call.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated understanding of sterilization principles required.
- Experience in central processing functions is required
- Graduated from an accredited Sterile Processing Technician program
- Prior experience required
Mental and Physical Demands
- Require constant and frequent judgment and response. Require language skills for communication in American English.
- Require high-level visual and auditory acuity for timely response and patient care activities. Ability to move quickly in response to physician and patient needs, occasional overhead and low reaching, bending, and the ability to exert force of up to 50 lbs. occasionally, up to 20 lbs. frequently and/or up to 10 lbs. constantly.
Occupational Exposure: Category I exposure to bloodborne pathogens; frequent exposure to chemical hazards; may encounter radiation hazards.
Essential functions and Objectives
- Supports, and performs according to, approved policies and procedures.
- Communicates effectively with visitors, physicians, and co-workers.
- Objectively evaluates suggestions or criticisms and attempts to improve performance or seeks further guidance, as needed.
- Adheres to safety policies and procedures in performing job duties and responsibilities.
- Adheres to sterilization process policies and procedures.
- Cleans each item according to manufacturers' instructions.
- Verifies that each item is in good working condition; lubricates items when needed and inspects instruments under a microscope for damage and defects.
- Sorts and arranges items into correct trays and wraps trays and individual items according to Facility policy.
- Accurately labels each item with name and expiration date.
- Correctly operates sterilizers, ultrasonic washers, and other equipment for processing items.
- Positions items correctly in sterilizer and selects proper cycle; seeks assistance when needed.
- Checks indicators for proper functioning.
- Performs required biological monitoring tests on all sterilizers according to Facility policy.
- Maintains availability of supplies for recording continuity during the sterilization process.
- Cleans sterilizers according to Facility policy.
- Maintains inventory levels and accurate records.
- Performs weekly inspections of all sterile items in the Facility
- Checks for outdated items and package integrity of wrapped sterilized items; replaces items as necessary.
- Places items in correct location.
- Maintains adequate inventory of supplies for the sterile processing area.
- Maintains and updates the instrument tray inventory list.
- Maintains current information regarding routine preference cards.
- Accurately documents count of items sent to and returned by the laundry service.
Job Types: Part-time, PRN
Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 25 per week
