The Opportunity:
As our Head Brewer, you’ll oversee production on a 10bbl system and a dedicated R&D pilot brewery, guiding the output of three distinct brands. You’ll balance hands-on brewing, cellaring, and packaging with team leadership, operational optimization, quality assurance, and product innovation. What You’ll Do:
Lead Production Excellence:
- Lead by aligning team with our purpose and mission, be the example
- Manage financial details related to labor, cost of goods, and facility maintenance
- Inspire and support a dedicated production crew, fostering open communication, professional development, and a collaborative, inclusive culture where everyone thrives.
Brew Good Beer:
- Manage day-to-day brewing operations from grain to glass, ensuring every batch meets our exacting quality standards.
- Wort/Beer production at our 10bbl production facility
- Wort/Beer production on our 2bbl r&d pilot system
- Cellar management including daily monitoring and maintenance of beer in production
- Beer transfers
- Barrel work when needed
- Helping our packaging team
- Inventory management
- Develop quality measures for each brand, refine raw material specs, and lead sensory evaluations. You’ll ensure consistent, top-tier beers that reflect the unique voices of Woodland Empire, Lost Grove, and Bittercreek.
- Establish SOPs, uphold safety protocols, and maintain a clean, attractive, and visitor-friendly work environment.
Champion Innovation & R&D:
- Oversight of 2 bbl pilot system, we do one pilot every week to evaluate new ideas
- Stay ahead of trends, pilot new techniques, experiment with ingredients, and guide R&D projects that push flavor boundaries. Oversee pilot batches and entries into regional/national competitions, helping our beers gain recognition.
Optimize Operations:
- Leverage brewery management software and data-driven insights to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and strengthen our supply chain. You’ll coordinate maintenance schedules, ensure regulatory compliance, and adapt as we grow.
What Makes You a Great Fit:
Experience & Expertise
- 5 years in brewery or beverage operations, with deep knowledge of brewing science, QA methods, and packaging best practices.
- Background/Education in brewing science
