Permit Technician Overview
The Permit Technician plays a crucial role in the Development Services Department by reviewing, determining, and estimating the appropriate cost for building permits issued to builders, contractors, and private individuals. This position is responsible for issuing permits for both commercial and residential construction projects. The role involves processing permit applications, collecting fees, and ensuring all required documentation is received and reviewed.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and determine the type and cost of building permits for commercial and residential construction.
- Issue permits to builders, contractors, and private individuals.
- Process permit applications by entering information into the computer system and coordinating with other departments and agencies as needed.
- Collect and process fees for permits, and perform daily balancing and deposit preparation for County Finance.
- Conduct sufficiency reviews of building plans, blueprints, specifications, and sketches to ensure required documentation is complete for each permit application.
- Assist with routing review workflow steps following sufficiency reviews.
- Verify contractor license documentation to ensure compliance with local and State regulations before issuing permits.
- Provide assistance to applicants by answering questions about permit types, processing steps, and other relevant information, including guidance on using the Seminole County ePlan Review System.
- Assist phone, counter, and Electronic Plan Review customers as necessary.
