Overview
The Personal Support Specialist (PSS) plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities and those requiring long-term care. This position involves providing compassionate support and assistance to clients in private residences. The PSS will work closely with clients to promote independence and ensure their daily needs are met.
Duties
- Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and meal preparation.
- Provide direct support to individuals with developmental disabilities, ensuring their safety and well-being..
- Engage clients in meaningful activities that promote social interaction and cognitive stimulation, particularly for those with dementia.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Maintain accurate documentation of client progress, incidents, and any changes in health status.
- Foster a positive environment that encourages client participation and enhances their overall quality of life.
Qualifications
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities
- Knowledge of dementia care practices is a plus.
- Previous caregiving experience or direct support experience is highly desirable.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with clients and their families.
