The Project Manager is fully competent in all conventional aspects of environmental engineering projects described above. Conducts self professionally at all times. Manages a variety of projects, coordinates subconsultants work plans, schedules and schedule updates, reviewing and approving labor and issuing client invoices. Participates in trainings, presentations, and conferences. Actively participates in business development by including developing scopes of work, fees, letter agreements, and request for proposals. Progresses departmental strategic initiatives (workshops, trainings, template development, etc.). Establishes and maintains strong client relationships. Individual has demonstrated creativity, foresight, and mature engineering judgment in anticipating and solving engineering problems, determining objectives, organizing projects, and developing standards and guides for engineering activities. Has full technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating assignments. Plans and develops engineering projects concerned with unique problems or projects. This involves exploration of subject matter, definition of scope and selection of problems for investigation, and development of novel concepts and approaches. Work at this level requires extensive progressive design experience. Supervision received is mostly administrative, with assignments given in terms of broad general objectives and limits.
EXAMPLE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES
- In a supervisory capacity, the Project Manager plans, develops, coordinates, and directs a number of projects of various size and importance.
- Supervises engineering and supports personnel: assigns and schedules work; establishes project priorities and standards; organizes project team meetings. Coordinates schedules with subconsultants.
- Takes lead role in project budgeting and staffing needs.
- Generates and completes contracts with clients for projects under his/her responsibility.
- Promote JVA’s Quality Assurance/Quality Control culture. Will be responsible for following the policy and procedures of the QA/QC policy manual.
- Responsible for QC reviews and conducts constructability reviews or assists in the design/planning/review of other engineering projects not assigned to the incumbent peer review.
- Coordinates Construction Administration services. Takes lead in reviewing Change Orders and responsible for coordinating with Principal.
- Leads Agency reviews for project teams.
- Completes projects of various scope and complexity. Also serves as a technical specialist for the company with expertise in a particular area and as such keeps abreast of new methods and developments in this area.
- The Project Manager will manage select clients and develop new clients in area of expertise.
- Performs marketing activities and coordinates those efforts with a Principal or Engineering Manager.
- Prepares proposals with Principal for potential projects and participates in the negotiations of fees.
- Makes recommendations for changes to achieve overall individual objectives.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Familiarity with Engineer Principles: Understand engineering elements of water and wastewater treatment facilities, water and sewer utilities, engineering economics, and technical report components.
- Leadership: Show a strong work ethic, dedication, and professionalism in your own work. Be punctual, organized, and demonstrate a positive attitude to motivate your team. Approach challenges with a proactive mindset, analyzing situations, and making informed decisions in a timely manner.
- Supervision: Skillfully manage the project while also fostering a positive and productive work environment where team members feel supported, motivated, and empowered to achieve project success. Delegate tasks based on team members’ strengths, skills, and workload.
- Project Management: Establish project priorities, supervise engineering and support personnel, and delegate planning, design, and construction administration tasks. Manage invoicing for projects.
- Prioritize and Pivot: Produce high quality results while balancing multiple projects and deadlines.
- Coordination: Focus on details and big picture tasks while staying organized by maintaining up-to-date schedules, documentation, and records. Ability to be open to change and ready to adapt to evolving circumstances.
- Communication: Express ideas and information clearly and concisely both written and verbally and practice active listening. Clearly define and communicate the roles, responsibilities, and expectations of each team member. Clearly communicate project progress to internal and external team members
- Active Listening: Give full attention to instructions provided, take time to understand points being made, and proactively ask questions to clarify as necessary.
- Collaboration: Successfully work within a team environment.
- Initiative: Self-motivated. Take proactive steps to drive projects and processes forward, identify opportunities for improvement, and follow through with commitments.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to obtain P.E. License within one year of hire: Have the required combination years of education and engineering experience to be able to obtain a P.E. License in the state of Colorado within one year of hire.
- Software Utilization: Demonstrated expertise with preparing calculations and reports using MS Office (or similar software suite).
- Growth mindset: Able to approach new tasks with a focus on improvement and to continually evolve and develop.
