Key Responsibilities
- Lead DFMEA activities for automotive design projects, ensuring all design elements are thoroughly evaluated for potential failure modes, effects, and causes.
- Facilitate DFMEA workshops with cross-functional teams, including product design, manufacturing, and testing teams, to identify and prioritize risks.
- Use engineering knowledge and DFMEA methodologies to systematically identify failure modes and assess their impact on product performance and safety.
- Develop and document failure mode analysis reports, ensuring comprehensive understanding of risk prioritization and mitigation actions.
- Collaborate with design teams to review design drawings, CAD models, and specifications to proactively identify design weaknesses or failure points.
- Work with the product development team to recommend and implement design changes that reduce or eliminate failure modes.
- Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for design-related failures and coordinate corrective actions to resolve potential issues.
- Develop risk mitigation strategies, including proposing design modifications, material changes, or manufacturing process adjustments.
- Participate in the development and improvement of DFMEA procedures, best practices, and documentation.
- Ensure all DFMEA reports comply with automotive industry standards, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications.
- Support the validation of design changes through testing and simulation to confirm that identified failure modes have been addressed.
- The position will require high level, continuous, summary reports and strategic timelines and plans to reduce RPN and risk.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related technical field. Master’s degree is a plus.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the automotive industry, with at least 3 years focused on DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) or related risk management activities.
- Strong experience in design engineering, with a proven track record of leading DFMEA sessions for automotive product development projects.
- Deep understanding of automotive design standards, regulatory requirements, and safety protocols.
- Certification in DFMEA or related methodologies (e.g., AIAG FMEA, Six Sigma, etc.) is preferred.
- Expertise in DFMEA methodologies, tools, and best practices.
- Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., CATIA, NX, AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and PLM systems.
- Strong understanding of design, manufacturing, and assembly processes within the automotive industry.
- Knowledge of reliability engineering, risk assessment, and failure analysis techniques.
- Familiarity with automotive quality management systems (IATF 16949, ISO 9001).
- Experience with simulation and testing methods to validate design changes and improvements.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to identify potential failure modes and their impact.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to articulate complex technical issues to cross-functional teams and leadership.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to identifying risks and providing solutions.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment, collaborating with various departments and stakeholders.
