Job Overview
We seek a creative individual with a keen eye for detail and a strong appreciation for art. As an art framer, the candidate will be responsible for framing artwork, photographs, and other items to enhance presentation and protect them from damage. The role will involve working closely with customers to understand their framing needs and providing exceptional service throughout the process. The ideal candidate has some experience and/or is willing to learn to operate picture framing equipment to cut and build frames, assemble a range of projects, and complete orders with precision and attention to quality. Previous experience in framing is preferred, although not required.
Duties
- Collaborate with customers to determine their framing preferences and requirements.
- Measure, cut, and assemble frames, glass and other materials using various tools.
- Ensure the quality of finished products by inspecting frames and framing materials for defects and making necessary adjustments.
- Maintain an organized workspace, including managing stock levels of framing materials.
- Operate POS, design and production systems for processing customer projects.
- Provide excellent customer service by communicating effectively with clients regarding their orders and timelines.
- Assist in hanging and displaying of art.
- Utilize basic math skills for accurate measurements and calculations in framing projects.
Required Qualifications
- Proficient in (or willingness to obtain proficiency in) all aspects of the picture framing process, including but not limited to cutting mats (by hand and with computerized mat cutter), glass, and foam core; stretching canvas, joining frames using manual under-pinner; mounting artwork; performing fitting, finishing, and packaging of artwork.
- Outstanding customer service skills with previous experience in retail or a customer service environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills to address framing challenges.
- Attention to detail, with the ability to measure and calculate accurately. Must be able to accurately measure to 1/16" on a measuring tape.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with customers and team members.
- Comfort with technology to utilize design, sale, and production software.
- Comfortable being around and working with power tools, large machinery, and sharp objects.
- Ability to quickly learn and perform tasks, as trained, with consistency, efficiency, and attention to proper handling of art & art objects.
- Openness to new ideas, new techniques, and innovative business practices.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
- A background in art or design.
- Sewing and/or construction skills.
- Experience with multiple types of mediums including art on paper, canvas, wood, metal, and fabric.
- Experience with material ordering and production flow.
Work Environment
- Position requires prolonged standing, bending, stooping, twisting, and lifting, including repetitive hand and wrist motion.
- Requires the occasional ability to safely lift items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Requires operation of sharp and potentially hazardous equipment and/or hand tools.
- Requires ability to utilize up to 10' ladder to hang framed art and signage.
- Requires adherence to safety procedures and use of safety equipment to minimize risk and exposure.
- This position occasionally requires extended working hours, when necessary, particularly during most recognized special occasions.
