Billing Specialist I

Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Billing Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in medical billing and coding, with a thorough understanding of medical terminology and billing systems. This role is crucial in ensuring accurate billing processes, managing claims, and maintaining financial records within a medical office environment.

Responsibilities

• Process and submit medical billing claims to insurance companies accurately and in a timely manner.
• Review patient accounts for accuracy, ensuring all necessary information is included for successful claim processing.
• Utilize coding systems such as ICD-9 and ICD-10 to assign appropriate codes for diagnoses and procedures.
• Manage accounts receivable by following up on unpaid claims and resolving any discrepancies or issues that arise.
• Communicate effectively with patients regarding their billing inquiries, payment plans, and outstanding balances.
• Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure proper documentation is available for coding and billing purposes.
• Stay updated on changes in medical billing regulations, coding practices, and insurance policies to maintain compliance.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in medical billing and coding within a healthcare setting is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of medical terminology, DRG (Diagnosis Related Group), and relevant coding systems (ICD-9, ICD-10).
• Familiarity with medical office procedures and practices related to billing and collections.
• Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical skills to identify discrepancies in billing processes.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
• Proficient in using electronic health record (EHR) systems and other relevant software applications related to medical billing.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with patients, providers, and insurance representatives.
