Certified Nursing Assistant - CNA Graveyard

Shift: Graveyard- 11pm- 8am


Position Purpose: Under the supervision of the CNA Supervisor, the Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) has the responsibility to engage with patients and to assist in delivering personalized attention and support to patients living at the Los Angeles General/USC Recuperative Care Center. The CNA will help patients with navigating around the site or community, eating, dressing, and bathing as needed. This role works in close collaboration with the patient care team, further enriching the well-being of our patients and contributing to the positive ambiance and exceptional level of care maintained throughout our facility.

Program Population: The Los Angeles General/USC-Recuperative Care Center (LAG/USC-RCC) helps homeless individuals in their recovery journey, helping them improve their health conditions and enhance their social and Activities of Daily Living (ADL) skills, all with the focus of securing stable housing opportunities. Some of these individuals may also experience mental health and substance abuse issues, which can occasionally result in behaviors such as yelling, using strong language, and displaying anger outbursts. The core responsibility of each staff member at the LAG/USC-RCC is to support clients in overcoming obstacles and improving their coping mechanisms.

Principal Responsibilities:

Performs job functions as prescribed by established policies and procedures within defined scope of education, training and responsibilities. 

  1. Observes and documents patient response to care.
  2. Reports and records observations of patient conditions. 
  3. Monitor client ability to care for bed pans, urinals, commodes, and empty urine collection bags.
  4. Assists with patient navigation around the facility for meals, rehabilitative and recreational activities, laundry, and to vans for community appointments. 
  5. Assists with meals as needed.
  6. Assists patients with hygiene and grooming activities.
  7. Assist partners within the client care team to support client health and safety. 
  8. Assists in promoting patient safety and environmental cleanliness.
  9. Assist medical team with obtaining vital signs and weights as needed.
  10. Documents pertinent patient information, following established policy and procedures. 
  11. Documents accurately regarding observations of patient response to care or physical conditions.
  12. Documents all data clearly and thoroughly– using name and title, date and time. 
  13. Follows all DHS requirements for logging/documenting/reporting patient status.
  14. Maintains confidentiality at all times.
  15. Responsibility and accountability for adherence to organizational and department standards and policy.
  16. Observes department guidelines concerning absences and reports absences to LVN Supervisor in accordance with departmental procedures, 
  17. Self-identifies potentially unsafe systems/processes/situations and takes initiative to report to the supervisor, 
  18. Participates in assigned staff and other meetings, for operations and training 
  19. Performs other duties and tasks as may be required or assigned.

Requirements:

  1. Minimum High School diploma or equivalence
  2. Licensed as Certified Nurse Assistant in accordance with the laws of the State of California
  3. Minimum one-year experience in a health care setting.
  4. Current BLS Certificate from the American Heart Association
  5. Must possess a caring and compassionate demeanor.
  6. Proficiency in working with diverse socio-economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds among clients, patients, and staff.
  7. Bilingual English/Spanish a plus
