Dog Groomer

A Dog Groomer is responsible for providing grooming services while keeping the dogs safe with a focus on customer service.

What will I be doing?

Specifically, you would be responsible for performing the following tasks to the highest standards:

· Grooming dogs by bathing, brushing, combing, trimming, de-matting, drying, scissoring, clipping and filing nails, and cleaning ears according to breed or mixed breed anatomy and specifications; applying special precautions with puppies and aged/disabled pets.

· Taking customer phone calls, scheduling appointments in our Customer software system, and maintaining records by documenting services.

· Interacting pleasantly with customers in the lobby and building relationships. This including gathering details of the customer’s grooming preferences and assessing dog’s condition by interviewing dog owner and inspecting dog.

· Resolving customer dissatisfactions by listening to and resolving concerns; providing educational information.

· Protecting pets, pet owners, and self by adhering to safety policies and procedures. Controlling pets by easing pet anxieties; reducing behavioral issues.

· Keeping supplies in stock and equipment operational. Controlling costs by conserving used of equipment and supplies.

· Utilizing our POS system to collect payments.

· Cleaning our grooming facilities at the end of your shift which may involve vacuuming, mopping, and dusting. Keeping the crates, tools, and tub clean. Keeping the room orderly and sanitary.

· Handling first-aid for daycare/boarding dogs and employees/self. Taking care of bleeding toenails, first-aid for puncture wounds, over-heating, cuts, splinters, etc.

· Updating grooming knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; or participating in professional organizations.

· Exploring opportunities to add value to the business (i.e. pet massage.)

We want to provide grooming services to our daycare and boarding customers as a convenience. We also provide grooming services to other dogs to fill out our Groomer’s schedule. We look for demonstration of these key attributes:

What will it be like to work at K-9 Kingdom?

The grooming room is air conditioned. There is a full-sized tub and two hydraulic foot-pump grooming tables. There are 4 grooming crates and a couple cabinets for storage.

Fast-paced environment. Daycare/boarding dogs come in and leave throughout the day. Dogs are in the building at all hours of the day. Daycare is staffed throughout the day with multiple people, so if you need some assistance with a dog, that can be provided on a limited basis. Grooming room is immediately next to the daycare, so you will hear barking from daycare/boarding.

You should expect that you will have minor bumps and bruises and scratches from claws. In some cases serious injuries can arise, including but not limited to, broken nose, joint injuries, slip and fall, trip and fall, and dog bites. You are allowed to refuse service if a dog is aggressive.

Physical demands involve lifting dogs up and down, walking around, pumping up hydraulic table with foot, manipulating clippers/scissors/water nozzle, moving through doorways without letting dogs through, mopping, scrubbing, and vacuuming, etc.

Mental/emotional demands involve problem solving to groom dogs safely, not getting frustrated when dogs don’t behave or do what you want, balancing the needs of human customers with the safety of dogs, calculating costs, etc.

Pay: 40%-50% of each groom, depending on experience level, plus 100% of tips

Hours: you will have flexibility to set your own schedule, recommend between 7am – 8pm due to our daycare/boarding staffing. Depending on how many hours you’d like to work per week, you may be asked to coordinate your schedule opposite of another groomer.

Requirements:

· At least 18 years of age.

· Reliable transportation.

· Proof of identity.

· Employment eligibility in the United States.
