Job purpose
The Project Safety Specialist inspects work areas and equipment to ensure compliance with company, local, state, and federal safety policies and regulations. This position will work to create and enforce a culture of safety within K-Five Construction. Responsibilities also include documenting safety inspections, citing dangerous areas/procedures and recommending corrective procedures, and maintaining safety equipment supply and availability. This role will be assigned to a project that will primarily work overnights.
Duties and responsibilities
· Ensure Company remains in compliance with governmental regulations
· Identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices
· Implement safety programs and procedures
· Assist employees with all aspects of safety
· Monitor effectiveness of hazard controls and hazard control programs
· Conduct safety orientations, meetings and trainings as needed
· Conduct job site inspections and observations
· Prepare written reports on job site inspections
· Complete incident/accident investigation and reporting
· Collaborate with Superintendents to monitor compliance and safety concerns
· Intervene in unsafe activities or operations
· Assist in companywide JHA Compliance
· Assist developing and conducting Toolbox Talks
· First responder for accidents involving injuries, including accompanying injured workers to clinics/hospitals.
· Maintain knowledge of OSHA regulations
· Participate in OSHA/EPA inspections
· Other duties as needed
Qualifications
· 5-8 years of practical experience within the Safety/Quality Control capacity in a construction based company.
· Bachelor’s Degree in Safety or related field.
· Airport construction projects experience preferred.
· OSHA 30 for the construction industry obtained within the last 5 years.
· Completed or able to complete Stop and Bleed Training Certification and CPR/First Aid/AED Certification.
· Proficient in MS Office products.
· Strong organizational and time management skills, ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
· Able to work under pressure and make decisions with confidence in compliance with safety protocols.
· Good attention to detail.
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Working conditions
The working conditions for this job entail a combination of working in an office setting and working in the field. Offsite jobsite visits include working outdoors in various weather conditions including extreme heat/cold with exposure to loud noises and equipment with moving parts. Sitting and/or standing for extended periods of time, as well as operating a motor vehicle. Will require evening/overnight work hours. Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 lbs.
