Summary

Our client, based in North County San Diego (Carlsbad, CA) is the industry leader in portable sound systems and portable public address (PA) systems. They pride themselves on manufacturing the highest quality products which are available worldwide. They are in immediate need of a confident and experienced Controller to join their team.

The Controller will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial management, including accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, and analyzing financial data to make informed business decisions. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, extensive knowledge of accounting principles, and the ability to effectively communicate financial information to both internal and external stakeholders.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage the month-end and year-end closing process, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial records.
  • Manage the day-to-day accounting operations including full-cycle accounts payable and RMAs.
  • Reconcile credit card expenses and bank statement.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Oversee financial reporting and ensure entries are posted to proper general ledger account.
  • Monitor procurement expenditures and review Material Requirements planning report with Buyer for inventory needs.
  • Develop and monitor annual budgets, providing recommendations for cost savings and revenue optimization.
  • Use the forecast prepared by sales, marketing and production the first of each month to input the monthly sales figures into the SAGE I00 budget.
  • Meet with department managers regularly and update the anticipated expenses by line item in the budget.
  • Prepare Sage 100 Crystal reports and Explore reports per management team requests. This includes a monthly summary of sales by product type, buyer planning reports, and daily build reports.
  • Interface with the bank to resolve disputed items, review monthly charges, and maintain adequate cash flow.
  • Review budget vs. actual variances and work with department managers to understand variances and update the budget as necessary.
  • Manage inventory valuation and oversee inventory adjustments.
  • Manage all outside auditing requirements.
  • Monitor corporate records for timely filing such as State filings, Franchise Tax Board filings, and business licenses.
  • Oversee external prepared tax filings from tax advisor. Review for accuracy and ensure timely filing.
  • Evaluate control issues to assure asset protection throughout the organization.
  • Prepare management reports highlighting financial trends.
  • Review internal controls and procedures being used by the accounting to ensure efficiency and accuracy, and streamline as necessary.
  • If managing a team, will perform annual reviews for direct reports and work closely with HR regarding salary increases.

Qualification & Requirements

  • Support client's CARES Core Values
  • Degree in Accounting
  • 7 years progressive accounting experience
  • 3 years’ experience as a Controller or Accounting Manager
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and procedures in compliance with GAAP
  • Knowledge of accounting ERP software such as Sage 100
  • Experience working within the manufacturing industry
  • Strong skill set using Excel (v-lookup and pivot table), Outlook, PowerPoint, and MS Teams Virtual Meetings
  • Knowledge of Microsoft applications including Word, PowerPoint, and Teams.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize job duties in order to meet deadlines
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • High level of confidentiality required for proprietary and employee information
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Must be goal oriented and a team player
  • High level of personal integrity, professionalism and business ethics
  • High attention to detail, ensures accuracy in completion of work
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English to the degree necessary to perform the essential functions of the position
  • Must be able to sit for full shift, with some bending, squatting, lifting
  • Successful completion of new hire forms, drug test, and new hire orientation
