This position is a full time position, working Monday to Friday. The hours may vary depending on the demands of our partners, but ideally will fall within 8am-5 pm.
Job Summary:
The GIS Technician I is responsible for creating the best geographic data possible in Open Street Map. They must collaborate with the team, read and understand workflows, assure clear understanding and expectations, be an active participant on the team, and meet established expectations for the number of tasks completed each day.
The Travelers are responsible for helping create the best geographic data possible in Open Street Map. They must collaborate with the team, read and understand workflows, assure clear understanding and expectations, be an active participant on the team, and meet established expectations for ground surveys.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Proficient at evaluating visual data
- Creates and maintains professional documentation, policies, and guidelines
- Professional written communication through chat messages and emails
- Responsive communication on all platforms
- Driven to learn and work collaboratively with a team to set goals set by client(s).
- Rapidly adapt to new techniques and workflows
- Able to explain/teach the workflow for the project
- Rapid Application of new learning to their editing

- Travel Team members are expected to help in the planning process before trips
Some examples of tasks that may be required:
- Purchasing plane tickets
- Reserving car rentals
- Reserving hotels
- Planning and performing mock drives
- Preparing equipment and file storage
- Training new travelers
- Organizing drug or covid tests
- Leading travel meetings and presenting training
- All team members are required to do a minimum of 2 trips per year

Preferred Qualifications / Skills:
- Experience creating and maintaining professional documentation, policies, and guidelines
- Proficient with OSM hot keys/plugins
- Proficient with iPad and GoKaart software
- Able to use different software programs and platforms used at the company
- Be professional and respectful of client resources
- Effective time management skills
- Self-driven and self-motivated
Education and Experience Requirements:
Kaart is willing to provide on-the-job training to travelers who are passionate about ground surveys and gathering ground footage data, able to be a team player and an innovative thinker for the projects you are working on.
Working Conditions:
Work is primarily completed in an office setting. Ability to sit for long periods. If requested, employees may work from home due to health hazards for a temporary time.
Local and distant travel may also occur regularly outside of the office.
Travel Expectations:
-Travel required ~4 weeks out of the year or more as needed
- Travel required 25 percent of the time in the United States and in other countries
- Travel could be in or out of the country
- Must be able to travel outside of the office for meetings and other events
- Travel may require overnight stays
- Able to navigate airports and travel for extended periods of time
- Drive for 10 hours per workday
- Daily communication with Travel Coordinator and Management
- Equipment management and troubleshooting
- Accurate expense and time tracking
- Navigate stressful situations in foreign countries
Travel Requirements:
- Free from alcohol or drugs and able to test prior to travel
- Current and valid driver license
- Must have a valid passport and a current COVID vaccination
- Must be willing and able to get required vaccinations for the region of travel
- Visa, and other documentation
Physical Requirements:
- Travelers will be required to sit for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position in a car while working and using an iPad.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk while working and using a computer for up to 8 hours a day.
- May move about the office for tasks.
- Must be able to differentiate between colors.
- Must be able to travel in an automobile, airplane or other modes of transportation.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
