Overview
A Bar Back plays a vital role in supporting our bartenders and ensuring the smooth operation of the bar. Your primary responsibilities will include assisting with bar setup, maintaining cleanliness and organization in the bar area, and replenishing supplies as needed.
What You’ll Do
- Cultivate one of the most welcoming spaces in NYC—a place for locals and tourists alike to see and be seen, ensuring a fun time for all.
- Assist Bartenders in setting up the bar area before service, including restocking glassware, ice, garnishes, and other essential supplies.
- Keep the bar area clean and organized throughout service, including wiping down surfaces, emptying trash bins, and ensuring proper storage of equipment and supplies.
- Prepare garnishes, syrups, and other ingredients according to recipes and bartender instructions.
- Retrieve and replenish bottles of spirits, beer, wine, and other beverages from the storage area as needed.
- Assist with dishwashing and cleaning glassware to ensure a steady supply of clean glasses for service.
- Monitor and restock inventory levels during service, notifying bartenders or management when supplies are running low.
- Assist bartenders in serving drinks to guests during busy periods or as needed.
- Participate in service by clearing and resetting tables, assisting servers with delivering food and drinks to guests, and ensuring a clean and welcoming dining environment.
- Provide exceptional customer service by greeting guests warmly, answering questions about the drinks menu, and accommodating special requests whenever possible.
- Collaborate with team members to uphold restaurant standards and foster a positive work environment; promptly notify management of any potential issues that may arise.
- Provide assistance with various service needs throughout the restaurant, including support at the front door and in the dining room.
- Recognize and distinguish regular patrons and VIPs, communicating pertinent information to the team.
- Support additional front-of-house projects as needed.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- 1-2 years of front-of-house service experience in an NYC high-volume restaurant
- Knowledge of KABIN’s food & beverage and hospitality philosophy & menus
- Knowledge of standard restaurant service procedures, including wine service
- Knowledge of each job function on the floor and understanding of the priorities of service
- Knowledge of “The Big 8” allergens
- Must be punctual and reliable
- Must be available to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to speak multiple languages, including English and Spanish, is a bonus
Health & Safety
- NYC Food Handler’s Certification suggested
- Adhere to the highest standards of food safety, food handling, sanitation, workplace safety, and hygiene requirements according to the New York City Department of Health standards to ensure the health and safety of team members and guests
- Adhere to COVID-19 sanitation protocols issued by the Center for Disease Control
- Adhere to time and temperature protocols
Work Environment
- Involves standing and walking the entire shift
- Involves holding objects with hands
- Involves reaching, bending, and stooping frequently
- Involves lifting, moving, and carrying at least 50 pounds with frequency throughout the shift
