What are the responsibilities and job description for the Addictions Counselor CAC II position at Kahak DC?
Kahak Health Care Services CAC Certified Addiction Counselor, in collaboration with the Case Manager conduct screening interviews to determine the need for a drug and alcohol assessments and for emergent care services in the specific areas of detoxification and mental health care; make referrals to appropriate health and human services agencies as needed based on the outcome of the screening interview.
The CAC works closely with consumers to engage them in the decision-making process and assist them with accessing the appropriate level of care.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Conduct confidential, quality assessments, that are gender-responsive and trauma informed, using the appropriate level of care; assessments may be conducted in the community or during screenings and interviews within Kahak Health Care Services clinic.
- Use strengths-based and trauma-informed approaches to work collaboratively with consumers, KAHAK HEALTH CARE SERVICES clinical team members, and internal and external entities to assist in supporting consumers in their recovery process.
- Provide clinical consultation to referral sources, and other entities to assist in supporting consumers in their recovery.
- Collect and review referral information upon assignment of consumers from referral sources and consult with others as needed to support coordination of services and scheduling of resident interviews.
- Collect information from collateral resources to aid in determining diagnosis and need for additional recovery support services.
- Based on assessments, make referrals to the most appropriate programs and agencies in an effort to assist consumers in accessing the right level of support to best meet their needs.
- Model and support health and wellness activities and healthy coping skills for consumers.
- Complete paperwork requirements and maintain quality, up-to-date clinical records.
- Consult with Medical Director, Clinical Care Coordinator and other program team members to ensure quality assurance for consumer care.
- Maintain a working knowledge of other drug and alcohol treatment agencies and programs, and a list of resources that can be shared with consumers.
- Provide psycho-educational groups to consumers, the team and organization as needed to ensure that all parties are abreast of changing trends in the area of drug and alcohol abuse.
- Participate in all assigned meetings, staff development, and training as required.
- Provide back-up assistance to program team members as needed.
- Other duties as assigned in accordance to the care and coordination of the program and consumers.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES REQUIRED

- Certified Addictions Counselor, required.
- Master’s degree in Social Work or Human Services and two years of experience in an alcohol or other drug or mental health setting preferred.
- Combination of comparable skills, experience, and education.
- Understanding and supportive of a trauma-informed system of care.
- Strong interpersonal, engagement, organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong computer skills required.
- Ability to support the organization’s mission and philosophy and demonstrate sensitivity to cultural diversity and organizational harmony.
