About Kairos Academies

Kairos Academies is an innovative, student-centered school that creates self-directed learners, leaders, and citizens. Our mission is to prepare students to direct their own lives and learning.

Position Overview

As a Restorative Justice Associate (RJC), you are critical in creating and sustaining a positive school culture. You will lead

incident investigations, coordinate reentry processes, implement restorative practices, and serve as a visible presence and model for maintaining high expectations. Your work ensures that all students feel safe, heard, and supported.

Core Responsibilities

Incident Investigation & Documentation

  • Conduct and document 100% of behavioral incident investigations.
  • Collect and maintain all required documentation: witness statements, BTAs, disciplinary notices, reentry plans, and the RJC Digest.
  • Ensure all suspension notices are sent by the end of the day.
  • Notify parents before reentry meetings and ensure all suspension documentation is uploaded to PowerSchool.

Reentry & Follow-Up

  • Facilitate in-person reentry meetings for Tier 3 suspensions.
  • Develop and document reentry plans before a student returns to school.
  • Send post-reentry emails to families, mentors, and support staff for aligned follow-up.
Behavior Tracking & Interventions
  • Monitor behavior trends daily via KickBoard, celebrating students and identifying those needing support.
  • Update the RJC Digest and notify the Ops team via Slack of suspensions and attendance.
  • Coordinate interventions based on resets and referrals (e.g., detentions, ISS, OSS), ensuring parents and students are informed.
  • Implement structured, tiered intervention systems before escalation.
Restorative Practices & Culture Leadership
  • Facilitate restorative circles and relationship-building activities for students in conflict.
  • Collaborate with teachers to strengthen in-class behavior management and de-escalation techniques.
  • Model effective culture response strategies for teachers, especially around phone use, tardiness, and engagement.
  • Monitor high-frequency referrals and coach teachers through least-invasive interventions.

Duties & Visibility

Perform daily morning, lunch, and hallway duties:

  • Morning: 7:55–8:25 AM (wanding, bag checks, cafeteria supervision)
  • Lunch: 11:28 AM–1:05 PM (transition hot spots and cafeteria)
  • Remain stationed at key locations: restrooms, STEAM hallway, red couch, etc.
  • Communicate proactively with your manager and teammates if absent or late.
  • Coordinate coverage for duties and responsibilities when needed

Ideal Candidate Profile

You are...

  • Passionate about building meaningful relationships with students.
  • Committed to restorative practices and culturally responsive discipline.
  • Organized, reliable, and timely in your communication and documentation.
  • Proactive, reflective, and eager to partner with staff to improve school culture.
  • A believer in high expectations, second chances, and student growth.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
  • Experience working with youth in educational, counseling, or community settings.
  • Familiarity with restorative practices, conflict resolution, or behavioral intervention.
  • Comfort with data tracking systems (e.g., KickBoard, PowerSchool).

Why Join Kairos?

  • Be a part of a mission-driven school transforming urban education.
  • Receive coaching, support, and professional development around equity and restorative practices.
  • Enjoy a positive, collaborative, and innovative school culture.
