SUMMARY DEFINITION
Under the general supervision of the Administration or Administrative Designee, the Campus Safety Specialist supervises and monitors the behavior of students and school visitors who are outside of class at both on and off campus school-sponsored activities. In close cooperation with the certificated staff, he/she assists in the enforcement of applicable sections of the Education Code, individual school rules and student conduct codes; assists in the maintenance of an orderly and safe campus.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (May include, but not limited to the following):
- Patrols campus, parking lots and facilities to discourage loitering, harassment, improper behavior, property damage and theft.
- Monitors automobile traffic and campus parking before and after school.
- Observes and directs behavior of students according to approved procedures.
- Maintains order among students on the school grounds during arrival times, class transitions, breaks, lunch periods, and dismissals.
- Maintains a high degree of courtesy and respect for students, staff, and public.
- Intercepts non-students who enter the campus during school hours, and directs them to report to the school office or leave the campus.
- Assists students, visitors, and staff as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.
- Assists in emergency, fire drill and/or evacuation procedures when necessary.
- Monitors and reports any unusual or strange behavior or events to the Administration or Administrative Designee.
- Covers classrooms as necessary
- Serves as instructional assistant to classroom teachers as needed
- Attendance during field trips as requested
- Supervision at off-site academies, as necessary
- Assists with custodial and grounds support as needed
- Performs security checks of buildings and grounds as necessary.
- Models and supports the Kairos Code of Ethics.
- Practices, procedures, rules, codes, regulations, techniques, behavior, and policies of Kairos Public Schools.
- Student Conduct Code and Educational Code sections related to student conduct.
- Assess situations, interpret student behavior and apply appropriate measures to enforce school behavior policies.
- Communicate effectively with students and adults.
- Diffuse situations calmly and with authority.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Maintain consistent, punctual, and regular attendance.
- Work in an outdoor environment, which may include seasonal heat or cold and adverse weather conditions, such as rain.
- Work with staff, students, parents, and visitors in a positive manner.
- Stand or sit for extended periods of time.
- Walk or run over uneven surfaces.
- Bend at the waist, kneel, or crouch to file materials.
- Reach above shoulders to file materials.
- Lift, carry, and push and/or pull items with a strength factor of medium work.
- Ability to speak in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversation, on the telephone, radio, and in addressing groups as necessary.
- Sufficient hearing to hear conversations in person and on the phone and/or radio, hear sounds clearly up to twenty feet, and have the ability to hear with both ears.
- Contact with dissatisfied or abusive individuals.
- Possible fights and confrontations.

- Possible contact with blood borne pathogens.
