Job Summary:

In collaboration with the Board, senior management team and physician leaders, the MHS CEO will articulate a clear vision for the organization that will accelerate a sense of pride, and a culture of continuous improvement and appreciation. This will include developing a strategic plan and corresponding master facilities plan. Appropriately identify opportunities to leverage the strengths of the institutions partnership with Kaiser Permanente while retaining Maui Health's identity. This will be measured by MHS being the hospital of choice for residents and employees.



Essential Responsibilities:


  • Ensure high levels of patient satisfaction by investing in, structuring, and directing operations to meet patient needs and by reinforcing a culture of excellence in service.

  • Ensure the integration of quality, service and efficiency improvements into day-to-day operations.

  • Ensure the delivery of high quality, integrated patient care and the effective use of resources by building strong, performance-based relationships with physicians and labor unions.

  • Maintain a fiscally sound enterprise that generates financial returns at targeted levels through effective business practices and sound financial arrangements.

  • Enhance Maui Health System social contribution by effectively guiding direct and indirect community benefit investments and collaborations and by building a strong community presence to meet health care needs of the population served.

  • Ensure effective relationships with community physicians and medical groups that strengthen the quality of clinical services.

  • Assure third party payor contracts are in place and effectively managed; contracting and management of hospital-based physicians; on call coverage and medical director positions support the mission and vision of MHS for excellent quality of care.

  • Assure effective execution of business strategies by aligning human resource strategies with business needs, by recruiting and developing a high-performance leadership team, by developing a climate which builds employee commitment and reinforces high performance and customer service and supports diversity.

  • Support the success of the enterprise by effectively contributing to and utilizing national resources and capabilities, actively sharing new learning and innovation.

  • Recruit and retain physicians and nurses and develop a strategy to grow local providers.

  • Ensure the successful implementation of key initiatives, promote and operationalize effectively in a union environment. Ensure the demonstration of effective behaviors throughout the organization.

  • Manage effective relationships with elected officials and board members. Achieve/exceed performance expectations, including for quality, efficiency, service and affordability.

  • Continue to improve Hospital Utilization Management.

  • Establish strong relationships with all community physicians and medical groups to ensure excellent quality.

  • Build sustainable, high quality clinical service lines as appropriate.

  • Consistently support compliance and ethical conduct by maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of information, protecting the assets of the organization, acting ethically and with integrity, reporting non-compliance, and adhering to applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, accreditation and licensure requirements (if applicable), and Kaiser Foundation Hospitals and MHS policies and procedures.


This position has a target base salary of $512,100 to $640,125 and is eligible for incentive compensation, comprehensive health, wellness, time off, savings, and retirement benefits, as well as relocation support, as applicable.

Basic Qualifications:

Experience


  • Minimum seven (7) years experience managing a complex community hospital system through a transition.

  • Minimum ten (10) years significant experience in community hospital operations as a chief executive and managing an integrated health care delivery system.


Education


  • A graduate degree in business administration, health care administration, management or a related field.


 

Additional Requirements:


  • Strategic understanding necessary to deal with the health care delivery systems of the future.

  • Thorough understanding of financial issues and delivery systems trends.

  • Understanding and commitment to diversity and experience managing in a diverse environment.

  • Understanding of integrated management models and community hospitals.

  • Prior experience working both in a rural setting and in complex community hospital system.

  • Demonstrated ability to build external relationships with legislators and community leaders.

  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in a business partnership with clinical, business, physician, labor union leaders, and a national partner or parent company.

  • Experience with integrating systems and services to more efficiently maximize service and to support the organizations mission and goals.

  • Demonstrated experience with both strategy and operations in a community hospital setting.

  • Demonstrated strategic and program planning skills in a managed care environment.

  • Financial planning and management skills.

  • The ability to balance strategic development and day-to-day operation responsibilities.

  • Demonstrated skills in team building and organizational development.

  • Excels in communicating in a variety of formal and informal presentation settings, large and small, both inside and outside the organization, and issuing cogent and consistent written messages that build confidence and achieve desired outcomes including experience utilizing social media.

  • Excellent problem solving and negotiating skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to impact outcomes.

  • Demonstrated ability to function collaboratively in a multi-entity partnership environment.

  • Demonstrated experience working with physicians in a community hospital environment.

  • Experience with fundraising and philanthropy.

  • From Hawaii or with ties to Hawaii and willing to make a minimum five-year commitment.
