What are the responsibilities and job description for the Contact Lens Fitter Apprentice position at Kaiser Permanente?
Job Summary:
Under the Branch managers direct supervision with general direction from the Contact Lens Fitter, performs a variety of tasks to support the fitting, cleaning and dispensing of contact lenses. This is the entry-level position for the Contact Lens Filler classification.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Conducts training classes on the proper procedures for the care and wearing of contact lenses with proper equipment.
- Verify the specification of contact lenses with proper equipment.
- Cleans and polishes contact lenses.
- Cleans and maintains the contact lens inventory.
- Explains policies and procedures regarding refunds and lens replacement agreements to patients.
- Assists the Contact Lens Fitter as needed.
- Assist other staff in the dispensing area, as needed
- Performs customer service and floor coordinating duties
- Perform all other duties as required.
- Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
License, Certification, Registration
- National Contact Lens Examiner - Advanced Certification OR National Contact Lens Examiner - Basic Certification
Additional Requirements:
- Incumbents of this classification must be able to perform the full scope of Contact Lens Fitter duties and have received their NCLE certification prior to promotion to Contact Lens Fitter.
- Demonstrated experience using lensometer, required.
- 50 mile driving required.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
- Must be willing to work in a Labor Management Partnership environment.
- Also refer to Position Specifications outlined in the appropriate collective bargaining agreement.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Contact lens experience preferred.
- Knowledge of contact lens products, i.e., solutions, contact lens materials and wearing schedules preferred.
- Ability to perform group dispensing classes in care and insertion and removal training preferred.
- Radioscope and polishing unit experience preferred.
