PROJECT SUPERINTENDENT
Wage Range: $79.71 per hour ($165,796 Annualized)
Location: San Jose Service Area
Kaiser Permanente’s Construction Department has an immediate opening in the San Jose Service
Area for an experienced Project Superintendent. All Candidates will have 7 years general construction experience with an emphasis on medical and institutional construction; analytical problem-solving skills; familiarity with UBC, ADA, Title 24 & state and local regulatory building codes, computerized construction management systems and spreadsheet applications. Microsoft
Project and spreadsheet proficiency; strong customer service orientation; excellent verbal and written and excellent communication skills a MUST.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Develops and manages assigned construction projects within the approved schedule and budget:
- Participates in pre-construction activities
- Oversees construction work crews
- Oversees multiple construction projects
Performs construction project activities and supervision, including:
- Manpower allocations are ensuring appropriate craft trade staffing for the tasks.
- Continuously monitors financial performance.
- Kaiser Permanente and CPFC’s Compliance requirements.
- Produces and maintains required project documentation such as Change orders, RFI’s.
- Creates and maintains construction schedules.
- CPFC’s Safety Program training and adherence.
- Pre-Task Planning.
- Develop ILSM and PCRA/ICRA for assigned projects.
- Organize meetings such as OAC’s, Pre-construction, Subcontractor, and project kick-off meetings.
- Daily visits to assigned projects.
- Review of construction daily logs
- Develops and executes CPFC’s Quality Control Plan on all assigned projects
- Subcontractors/purchasing invoice review.
REQUIREMENTS
Functional Knowledge & Skills
- Ability to produce & update construction schedules.
- Proficient in e-Builder or gain proficiency within a six-month window of hire.
- Working knowledge of KP, NFS, CPFC & Medical Center P&P, Standards, Master
Agreements, or gain proficiency within a six-month window of hire.
- Good understanding of construction management processes and responsibilities.
- Computer skills: ability to use email, Word, Excel, Microsoft Project, Bluebeam, PlanGrid
- Working knowledge of contract language and conditions.
- Proficient in blueprint reading; must be able to translate details and specs into practical use.
- Demonstrates good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to make accurate judgments and calculations.
- Ability to problem solve through construction issues and overcome obstacles.
Customer & Industry Knowledge
- Knowledge of NFPA Life Safety Code 101, OSHA, CAL-OSHA, HCAI/OSHPD, State Fire Marshall, UBC,
- ADA, Title 24 & state and local regulatory building codes.
- Working knowledge of KP, NFS, CPFC and Medical Center Policies & Procedures, and Standards, or
- gain proficiency within a six-month window of hire.
- Must be able to understand and interpret construction documents.
- Working knowledge of construction practices.
- Working knowledge of contract processes.
- Working knowledge of KP processes or proficiency within six months of hire.
- Working knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations and building codes.
- Must be able to perform constructability reviews, value engineering, and disruption plans.
- Working knowledge of Trade Labor Union requirements.
Education
- Minimum High school diploma or GED required.
- Five (5) years of experience in Commercial and/or hospital construction.
Preferred: o Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or equivalent. o Superintendent certification through Carpenter’s union or equivalent. o OSHA 30 o HCAi (OSHPD) Experience o Quantity takeoffs / some estimating experience
Environment
- Office and construction worksites. Must be able to work shiftwork, overtime, and under pressure of deadlines. May require travel to other medical service areas. Must be able to work in a matrixed environment. Must be able to work in a union environment
- Physical Requirements
- Must be able to validate work in place which may include climbing a ladder, crawling in above ceiling places, climbing, stooping, bending, and lifting load of twenty-five pounds.
