Job Description
Operated and managed by Living Classrooms Foundation in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, the Chessie Dragon Paddle Boats and Electric Pirate Ships of Baltimore are popular family-friendly attractions among area residents and visitors from around the world. They also serve as employment venues for youth and young adults as an extension of our job training programs, often providing Baltimore City youth with their first job experience. Combined, the two venues employ approximately thirty teens and young adults each year. The attractions are open daily, Mid-March through November, weather permitting. Proceeds from ticket sales support Living Classrooms’ hands-on education and job training program.
The Dockhand is the visitor’s primary guide to their experience with the Chessie Dragon Paddle Boats and the Electric Pirate Ships. Dockhands are collectively responsible for the entire customer experience on the dock, including selling tickets, answering questions, delivering the safety orientation, assisting customers on and off boats, and guiding boats on and off the docks. Dockhands are also responsible for the cleanliness and tidiness of the boats and the docks, as well as other duties that may be assigned by the Boat Rental Concession Manager.
This position is part time (up to 30 hours per week) and seasonal, March-October. Occasional weekend shifts may be available in November and December, weather permitting. The starting pay is $15.00 / hr.
Essential Duties
- Being friendly and polite to all customers in all interactions.
- Assisting customers with selecting and donning lifejackets.
- Delivering safety orientation to customers.
- Guiding boats on and off the dock.
- Using computers to handle credit-card transactions and waivers with efficiency and integrity.
- Keeping boats and dock area clean and neat, and helping to keep all boats in good working order.
- Other tasks may be assigned by the Manager or Assistant Manager.
This is an entry-level position. Strong candidates will be excited to work with the public in a dynamic outdoor environment. Staff will receive training in all aspects of their job duties.
