Overview
The Infection Preventionist plays a critical role in safeguarding the health and safety of patients and staff within healthcare settings. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring infection prevention protocols to minimize the risk of infectious diseases. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and relevant regulations such as OSHA standards. This role is essential in ensuring compliance with infection control policies and enhancing the quality of care in assisted living environments.
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough documentation reviews to ensure compliance with infection control standards.
- Monitor patients for signs of infections and implement appropriate interventions as needed.
- Collaborate with healthcare teams to manage infectious disease care effectively.
- Educate staff on best practices for infection prevention and control measures.
- Maintain accurate medical records related to infection prevention activities.
- Participate in the development and review of the Minimum Data Set (MDS) assessments concerning infection-related data.
- Stay updated on current trends and guidelines related to infection prevention and control.
- Conduct regular audits of infection control practices within the facility to identify areas for improvement.
Requirements
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy.
- Experience in assisted living or similar healthcare settings is preferred.
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations and guidelines related to infection prevention.
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective education and documentation purposes.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Prior experience in patient monitoring or infectious disease management is a plus.
