GENERAL SUMMARY
The purpose of this job is to investigate, determine enforcement action, and execute enforcement of non-compliance of domestic relations orders in accordance with state and federal law. Responds to daily inquiries from litigants in person, via phone, mail, and the Internet regarding court processes, available services, and options for legal relief.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manages cases, including recording, evaluating, and monitoring case documentation in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Responds to daily inquiries from litigants via phone, email, internet, and in-person; provides information regarding court processes, available services, and options for legal relief.
- Investigates noncompliant court orders and completes appropriate enforcement actions such as suspending driver’s/professional licenses, withholding passports, or placing liens on financial accounts.
- Conducts show-cause hearings for litigants who are not in compliance with court orders.
- Executes pre-hearing interviews and negotiates possible settlements for court review.
- Issues and resolves civil bench warrants, refers cases for criminal prosecution, registers intergovernmental court orders, and testifies in civil and criminal court hearings.
- Performs related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Criminal Justice, Pre-Law, or a related field
- 3 to 5 years of related work experience in law enforcement in a court setting
- Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities
Required Licenses or Certifications
- Michigan Child Support Enforcement System Certification
- Sworn Officer of the Court
