Live Plants Team Lead

Kalamazoo Garden Solutions (KGS) is seeking a passionate Team Lead to oversee a team and support merchandising efforts across many of our rural and urban locations in IN/IL/OH/MI. If you have leadership experience and a love for plants, this is a great opportunity to make an impact at a national retailer!

As a team leader, you’ll guide a group of passionate merchandisers to enhance plant displays and ensure they’re in top condition for customers. Meet Some of Our Management Team:

Evonne - Merchandising Manager

• How long with KGS? Going into her fourth season with KGS, Evonne has worked as a Lead with Meijer stores for two years and is now in her second year as a Merchandising Manager overseeing 16 stores (Walmart and Meijer).
• Prior Experience? Evonne’s background includes being a Crew Leader for a landscaping company and a Visual Manager and Designer for a garden center.
• Passionate About? Family, design, and gardening are Evonne's passions. She’s constantly exploring new gardening techniques and incorporating design into her gardening practices.

Rochelle - Merchandising Manager

• How long with KGS? Rochelle joined KGS in January 2019 and currently serves as a Merchandising Manager.
• Prior Experience? Before KGS, Rochelle worked as a Retail Supervisor of Events, overseeing and managing retail setups for various events.
• Passionate About? Rochelle enjoys spending time with her two pugs and is dedicated to the upkeep of her parents' home, reflecting her caring nature for both family and her home.

Nick- Regional Manager

• How long with KGS? Been with the company for 10 years.
• Prior Experience? Previous work experience in retail management and retail merchandising.
• Passionate About? Enjoy gardening, hiking, camping, lounging by the pool, catching a tan, and generally being outdoors.

Barbara - Merchandising Manager

• How long with KGS? Joined Kalamazoo Garden Solutions as Merchandising Manager this year, bringing 20 years of experience in plant merchandising.
• Prior Experience? Extensive background in plant merchandising and building strong, passionate teams within the industry.
• Passionate About? Enjoys hiking, running, gardening, landscaping, spending time with farm animals, and cherishing moments with grown children and 5 grandchildren.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead a team of merchandisers in setting up and maintaining plant displays according to store layout.
• Provide daily updates to management and ensure smooth operations across stores.
• Ensure proper watering practices and maintain plant health.
• Audit and ensure that all signage is updated in a timely manner for promotions and sales.
• Work independently and in a team setting to meet daily goals and expectations.

Position Requirements:

• City of Residence: Candidates must live in close proximity to our local client retail service location(s), which will be confirmed during the pre-interview process.
• Experience effectively leading a team.
• Reliable Transportation: Reliable transportation is required to commute to work.
• Flexible Schedule: A commitment of at least 2 days per week for 4-hour shifts is required. Additional shifts may be available upon request.
• Physical Fitness: Candidates must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, push, pull, and remain active for the duration of their shift.

Qualifications:

• Prior merchandising or retail experience is a bonus.
• Prior experience in team management.
• Willingness/desire to do the work alongside your team.
• Ability to hold a schedule and be organized.
• Reliability is essential.
• Strong customer service oriented attitude.
