What are the responsibilities and job description for the Facilities Assistant position at Kalamazoo Institute of Arts?
The Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, is located in the heart of downtown Kalamazoo, Michigan. The KIA holds more than 5,000 fine artworks in its permanent collection; presents touring and collection exhibitions in 10 galleries; offers four terms of art classes at the Kirk Newman Art School across various disciplines; houses the KIA Gallery Shop, featuring artwork by local artists and international artisans; and is home to the Mary & Edwin Meader Fine Arts Library. What You’ll Do
Reporting directly to the Director of Facilities, the Facilities Assistant:
- Is Responsible for cleanliness of various museum buildings, conditioned and unconditioned, on multiple floors
- Cleans floors and surfaces by sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, etc
- Empties trash cans in all offices, visitor spaces, and behind-the-scenes spaces, replaces liners in cans
- Assists with painting of exhibition display walls, pedestals, etc as needed
- Cleans and sanitizes restrooms and kitchen, and replenishes supplies
- Maintains back stock of custodial supplies
- Performs daily cleaning and maintenance in classrooms, studios, and restrooms
- Washes windows, glass doors, walls, metal, porcelain, and woodwork
- Opens and closes, locks and unlocks facilities as needed
- Removes snow from sidewalks and steps
- Maintains current skills and knowledge in the proper and safe techniques of building maintenance
- Sets up tables and chairs for events as needed
- Performs additional duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities
Job Qualifications:
- Ability to work independently while following directions
- Experience working with cleaning supplies and equipment
- Ability to use cleaning products and chemicals safely
- Ability to follow one- or two-step instructions, routine, repetitive tasks
- Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions; write identifying information, request supplies verbally or in writing
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally or in writing, with employees, and the general public
- High School Diploma or GED
Salary : $17 - $19
