What are the responsibilities and job description for the Auto Tech Instructor position at Kalamazoo RESA?
Summary:
Responsible for providing high quality instruction to high school students in classroom and lab settings to develop the skills, knowledge, and 21st century skills in automotive technology. The instructor will help students learn about the safety, equipment, and tool use in preparation for the ASE Maintenance & Light Repair exam for certification, post-secondary education, and employment in the industry. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support KRESA anti-bias, anti-racism principles, prioritizing equitable opportunity, program representation and support for all students
- Develop and deliver automotive maintenance and repair curriculum based on key learning objectives, utilizing best practices, and various technologies to deliver integrated instruction
- Provide instruction that draws upon real life experiences, outside experts, and other industry resources whenever possible
- Create a syllabus which includes key learning objectives; class norms; attendance and grading policies; work habits expectations; a calendar of due dates for class assignments, projects, quizzes, tests; and other necessary information
- Prepare students for certification and testing
- Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students
- Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the student
- Develop assessments which track effectiveness of teaching and learning
- Maintain online attendance and grading on a timely basis
- Develop and maintain partnerships with local industry professionals in addition to attending at least two advisory committee meetings each year
- Participate in CTE staff meetings and training as well as professional development opportunities in industry-related PD, as required by the state
- Plan, provide, and document work-based learning opportunities for students
- Complete required Technical Reporting and Compliance (TRAC) documentation and NATEF reporting requirements
- Effectively communicate with students, parent/guardians, KRESA CTE staff, school counselors and other stakeholders
- Regular and consistent attendance
- Other duties as directed by CTE principal and CTE director
Must have knowledge of and comply with the policies and procedures contained in the Kalamazoo RESA handbook.
Education and/or Experience:
- Must be State of Michigan, ASE or NATEF certified and hold one of the following State of Michigan certifications:
- State Secondary Provisional Certification with the CIP 47.0604 endorsement;
- CTE Certification or Occupational Education Certification with the CIP 47.0604 endorsement;
- OR
- Must be State of Michigan, ASE or NATEF certified and qualify for Annual Career Authorization which includes having two years (4,000 hours) of current, industry-related experience in the last ten years.
Certificates, License, Registration:
Valid Driver’s License required.

School environment where there may be physical discomfort due to temperature, dust or the like, depending on location of CTE program (i.e., computer lab vs. auto shop).
